Jerry genuinely likes the name Lois - it has do with the Superman fetish he has, which has been alluded to in many episodes but never completely explained (like his past relationship with Elaine). He has always wanted to go out with a woman named Lois, so he could be that much more like Superman. End of story.

Jerry Idolizes Superman. ( hence the superman on the fridge, and on his shelf.) It only makes good sense that Jerry would want a girlfriend named Lois. It would make him that much closer to being SUPERMAN! :)

Seems like the Teri Hatcher "Breasts" episode came just before she started appearing in Lois and Elvis, whoops, I mean Lois and Clark. Also...make sure you check out Teri in a sadly underrated "The Big Picture" starring Kevin Bacon.
