Seinfeld will compromise its quality by adding gimmicky elements like child characters or very special episodes to boost ratings in its new time slot.

Fans discuss fears that Seinfeld might compromise its quality if it tries to appeal to mainstream audiences as the Cheers replacement, but most express confidence the show will maintain its integrity.

I don't know, maybe I've spent too much time in Massachusetts, or maybe I'm just in a masochistic mood, or a bit worried about what the new season might bring.... but here's an idea for a new contest...

How could the writers most screw up our favorite show?

Here's some ideas (complete fiction, thank God):

  • Anything involving "a very special" Seinfeld
  • Adding a "cute" wisecracking child to the cast.

Ideas, anyone?

Most media/TV critics/observers say that this year Seinfeld faces a great deal of pressure to do well in the old Cheers 9pm slot. As the result, the writers/producers may go in the direction of mainstream sitcoms. I agree that Jerry's gang is under pressure to get great ratings as the 'Cheers' replacement no matter how much NBC denies it...It would really suck if 'Seinfeld' goes the way of 'Night Court' after 3-4 seasons on the air in order to appeal to a wider American TV audience...

I have complete faith that JS would never let this happen. I look forward to quality shows right up till the end. Could be wrong, but for some reason I trust those in charge of Seinfeld.

I agree. Jerry does the show his way. (Well, him and Larry David). When it was 58th in the ratings and people were saying "hire some sitcom writers" he said NO, he wanted to do it his way... and it's worked.
