Jason Alexander's comments on Howard Stern Show

Jason Alexander was on Howard's show last week. He mentioned, in explaining the various reasons that the cast felt it was time to quit, that they'd done everything they felt they could with their characters. He noted that they were all on the verge of becoming charactizations, instead of characters. After seeing The Frogger, particularly Kramer's role in it - I'd say Jason's got a good point.

But wasn't it Jerry's decision to call the show off?

Yes...but before he made it, he consulted with his castmates and with co-creator Larry David (just as he'd done at the end of 1996 when deciding whether or not to end the show in '97 or do a 1997- 98 season). The MAJOR decisions ever since the cast's original contracts ran out in May 1995 were always made in consultation with all the principals involved. Got this direct from Kenny Kramer, who is definitely in a position to know about a show he partly inspired...

Incidentally, Michael Richards at first tried to talk Jerry out of wrapping it up...he wanted to do a 10th season. But he finally came around, just be- fore Jerry made the announcement at Christmas- time. (Source on that...Vanity Fair's latest issue.)
