Who played Jerry's dad?

I saw this one episode of Seinfeld that had this guy playing Jerrys dad that wasn't the same as the real guy. It was obvious because it didn't look anything like the real dad. Why did he have a different guy in this episode? Was the real actor sick? It doesn't make sense. It just confuses people.

I forget the name of the actor who played his dad in that episode, I believe it was "the stakeout"? well that was one of the first shows and that was taped before they got "the real dad" to be Morty...

The same thing happened with George's dad, but interestingly, they later re-filmed the segments replacing the first actor with Jerry Stiller for syndication purposes, but not in this episode with Jerry's dad. Jerry had a fake father?

Jerry's television father, Morty Seinfeld, was played by Phil Bruns in "The Stakeout." Phil was later replaced with Barney Martin, who played Morty in all other appearances on the show. Unlike the instance with George's father, Frank Costanza, where all scenes with the original actor were reshot for syndication with replacement Jerry Stiller, Phil Bruns' scenes as Morty were never reshot with Barney Martin.
