Is George modeled after him? He's listed as the co-creator of the show. In the episodes where George and Jerry are writing a pilot, George is the one coming up with most of the script (let alone the concept). This seems to be the case with Larry David in general. Are he and Seinfeld long time writing partners and/or childhood buddies? Are George's parents modelled after Larry's? Maybe there's an FAQ on this?

Yes, George is directly modeled after Larry David, who is reputed to be twice as neurotic as George himself. I don't know much about his parents, but David is supposed to be the real creative force behind the show (and as of his last public interview, he isn't coming back next season.) Jennifer S. Larry David also starred in ABC's short lived late nite answer to Saturday Night Live in the early 80's, I believe, called Fridays.
Also starring on that show was Michael Richards.

Whatever happened to Melanie Chartoff? She was a real cutie. Funny, silly, yet somehow dignified. But with today's selection of sitcoms, I'm not sure where she'd fit in.

Melanie Chartoff does the voice of one of the moms in Nick's animated series 'Rugrats'. Just listen, you can pick out which one she is.
Another couple of cast members of 'Fridays' is Darrow Igus and Mary Edith Burrell. MEB has made at least one appeareance on Seinfeld. She was the mom of the boy who heard Jerry swear.
