I thought "The Checks" episode was average for this season, sub-par relative to past seasons. I agree with the newsgroup contributors who have claimed that the characters do not always seem "themselves" this season. George, in particular, seems to have lost some of his edge. It is beyond question that Elaine has become very mean, and barely even a member of the Seinfeld group. One newsgroup poster was very perceptive in his observation that the characters' lives seem less intertwined, heading in independent directions. Nonetheless, the fact remains that even a below-average Seinfeld episode is better than at least 90% of the shows on T.V. Anyway, my question is, does anybody have any input on the Desperado song incident in "The Checks" episode? Someone suggested that it was part of a 70's theme in this episode. Any other ideas? It was so unusual that it seemed to me that it must be an allusion to some movie scene, or some other pop culture phenomenon. Thanks.
