Elaine Subplot stupid

I got turned off right away when Elaine met the delivery man in the "boundry" and he would rather walk away with an undelivered, wasted order than her money and probably a tip-UNREALISTIC and STUPID.

I agree. Then she goes to anapartment building in the delivery zone and makes the janitor's closet an apartment just so she could get some flounder. Then she did it again the next night! If she wanted the fish that bad, why the hell didn't she just take a cab to the place?

I thought this was really weak. Does she know absolutely no-one who would go to the restaraunt with her? I am not impressed with these threads. Another example: the AMA conspiracy because she is 'difficult'. These threads just dont do it for me. Too off the wall.

That's faulty logic! Why would the fish be any colder by taking a cab than having it delivered? It's coming from the same place.

I'll tell you the worst and stupidest Elaine subplot...She gets in a mysterious relationship with a 15 year old film critic. It was nearly bad enough to be a Friends plot. They regained their stature though. Elaine's writting needs to be more girlish like she used to be. She's freakin' me out!

You have to hail a cab, that takes time. The delivery person has their own vehicle. Also, delivery people often have contraptions in the vehicle designed to keep the food warm. Finally, even if Elaine had a car, which I don't think she does, she would have to park before going up to her apt to eat it. A delivery person rarely parks -- they just put their blinkers on and run up to your door, and then leave. Parking takes a lot of time.

The idea of taking a cab is ridiculous anyway. Apparently, Elaine does not live very close to the restaurant; she is out of the delivery zone. Cab fare two ways would be very expensive. Delivery is probably offered to those in the zone free of charge. Finally, if the delivery person uses a bike, it could be a lot faster. On city streets, bikes are often much faster than cars getting from one place to another. One reason why there are so many damn bike messengers.

Huckelberry, Huckelberry. You are insistent on arguing cases based on your own brand of logic, based on facts you select yourself. The reason deli's and restaurants in NY have restrictions on delivery areas, besides making it possible for writers to have an easy script week, is because thier delivery people do not have vehicles. They walk, sometimes fast, or they might use a bicycle.

The delivery people don't drive their cars because A) few delievery people can affford a car in NYC and B) even if they had a vehicle there are very few places to park! If a customer in NY had to wait for the pizza guy to show up with a pizza after finding parking spot the anchovies would be fossilized.

To my way of thinking Elaine would have been better off getting the fish to go. She could have taken a cab or walked the distance herself...but then the writers would have had to come up with something esle instead of using this particlarly weak subplot.

1) Elaine getting fish to go and taking a cab back -- ADDRESSED BY ME (Cab not NECESSARILY faster than bike, which I DID mention as a very possible mode of transportation for delivery people. I even suggested that a skilled biker can get somewhere in NYC faster than a car. HENCE, it makes more sense for her get the food delivered and have it still warm.

2) Elaine walking to the restaurant -- ADDRESSED BY ME (I assume you are talking about her walking there, ordering to go, and then walking back, and then eating. This is obviously too slow. If you are suggesting that she actually eat there, ELAINE addressed this in the show; she didn't want to seem like a loser and eat alone in public.)

3) The few delivery places that do have cars don't bother to park them, you idiot. They just get out of the car and leave it POSSIBLY ILLEGALLY PARKED, and run the food to the apt. Where do you live that the pizza delivery person actually parks their car?

They really are harsh on the restrictions. This has happened to me. I thought it had reality written all over it. Move to New York.

I doubt JPB lives\works in NYC. There are FREE delivery zones and there are deliveries ANYWHERE for extra charge. I used to do foot delivs and occasional taxi rides across the island to remote folks, devoted to my "employer". Almost all impose some minimum order amount for delivery, but destination-wise - top rests have no limits.

I think it was the principal of the thing...She was on the outermost fringe of their delivery area...and on the wrong side of the street to boot....Besides.....its TELEVISION...... Yup..thats what it is the last time I checked.

Yeah, but in past seasons, Elaine hasn't reacted downright STUPIDLY. Foolishly, yes. Misguided, yes. Stupid, no. Elaine in seasons past was not DUMB.

Actually, Seinfeld is always about unrealistic things happening. I think they achieve this by mixing obvious realism (i.e. references to real places and things, like Pez, Junior Mints, Superman, Yankee Stadium, etc.) with surrealistic events and eccentric characters. It's almost like Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer are living in a parallel universe where everything SEEMS normal, but isn't. That's what always makes the situations so unique and funny.

So, I thought the Chinese delivery boy walking away was very Seinfeld-esqe and very funny.
