Spinoffs?

I would hope Kramer gets his own show,or georges parents.Next year thursday will be sad.

You can be sure that spinoffs will follow. Every great show has them, Mash (Trapper John, AfterMash), Cheers (Frasier). I kind of hope it doesn't happen though, because IT WILL SUCK, WHATEVER IT IS. I will be content with reruns. Tom

Many spin offs have been good .. but someone please..refresh my memory..what was AfterMash...did it last 1 - 2 weeks..... I am drawing a blank here..HELP!

it was a show w/ col potter klinger & the good father (cant spell his last name). It was set in a hospital in the col. home town (i think) It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. It lasted one season i think.

I'd be very surprised if I DIDN'T see a show next year called "Kramer" or something like that. I'd expect to see Cosmo in another "nothing" show accompanied by some of the "secondary" characters like Newman (of course), J.Peterman, FDR, Putty, Banya, Bob Sacamano (?) and once in a while Frank, Estelle and guest appearances by the "real" Kramer too. Might even catch on like "Frazier" did.

As for Elaine and George I would not expect so see them in a TV comedy but probably starring on the big screen instead. Jerry Seinfeld it seems, can write his own ticket and it will be interesting to see what he decides.

My prediction: Kramer will air on Thursdays at 9PM in the fall. The question is which network will it be on? ABC,CBS, and FOX will also bid for it.

Think about it Gordo: the Seinfeld characters' lives are so intertwined that writers would have to write in a catastrophic event for any single character to carry on in a spinoff without the others -- an unlikely proposition. What is more likely is that Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, and/or Julia Louis-Dreyfus will star in new, separate series, as new characters totally unrelated to Seinfeld, if at all.

Let's hope they don't, simply because the writers who crank out prime time TV scripts rarely seem to find a way to take a supporting character in a hit show and build a new hit around him/her. Frasier was the exception because of Kelsey Grammer's talent and the room the character had for growth and change. Unfortunately, the only character on Seinfeld who isn't pretty well locked in to his/her own dementia is Jerry himself, and you're not going to build a spinoff around the central character of the parent show (especially if he's the one pulling the plug).

Something else...don't know if Jerry ever lurks around in this group, although it wouldn't be surprising if his cur- iosity occasionally gets the best of him and draws him in. If he does, he must be getting a lot of entertainment from the recent posts. None of us knows him, not many of us have even spoken with any of his friends...but here we are all making plans and speculating on his future and what we want to see him do. I'm guilty of it myself. We have to real- ize the guy owes us nothing more than his best work as an entertainer, and he's already given us more than enough for one career. Even his departure from prime-time TV is being conducted in a way that shows a lot of respect for his craft and his audience. Let's let him enjoy what's next for him...we've got lots of reruns to enjoy until he comes to our towns with his standup act.

It would be nice to see a spinoff with some of the characters on another show but it will never be the same...... im very sorry to see it go, as Iam sure NBC is !!!

The only spinoff in recent years that's been as creatively successful as its parent, is Frasier. That's because they took the one and only character whose life had room for change and growth (and the most talented actor on the show) and put him in a new setting with a new ensemble...and of course it worked.

Let's look at Seinfeld in the same light. There is really only one character who seems to have enough of a glimmer of critical self-awareness to have some growth potential in a spinoff series. Unfortunately for the spinoff-meisters, that character is Jerry. Can't do a spinoff featuring the title character of the original show, especially if he's the one who wants to end it all, can you?

Actually, Jerry will get the chance to make a come- back, as himself, on TV again...Letterman's contract with CBS runs out in the fall of 1999 and he's making noises about packing it in and doing something different, and don't you think Jerry will get the first crack at replacing him?

With all of the talk of a Kramer spinoff, to me, the only successful spinoff would be of the parents of George and Jerry. Have them move to condos in Florida with all of the attendant yelling and feuding with other old types. Also, it would provide a venue for "visits" of George and Jerry to the condo every once in a while. Jerry Stiller and the actress who plays his wife are great! They could definitly carry a "Del Boca Vista" spinoff. Think of all of the other old types that have been in the condo episodes, Jack Klompus, the old bread lady and others, and you've got a great show!

I think George AND his parents would be the most likely spinoff material (good title too: "Costanza!"), though it would be hard to sit through - unlike George, we could escape that hell by switching channels.
