wannabe shows

i suddenly remered seeing two shows in the 90s one which was alot like seinfeld and another alot like friends.

The only thing i remember from the seinfeld wannabe show was that they all gathered in the apartment of one of the guys (i think he had a roommate) and talked about their day. I think they guy looked a bit like jerry

the friends wannabe show was about i think 6 friends in new york and dating and all that. I remember one episode where one of the guys in the group boxed i think against a boyfriend of one of the girls in the group and he knocked the boyfriend out and said something like "you should rent legends of the fall"

does anyone have here know what shows im talking about?

There were a MILLION Friends knock offs so I won't touch that one, but the Seinfeld knockoff i think you are thinking of was "It's like, you know." It was written and produced by a bunch of ex-Seinfeld writers and was kinda funny but maybe too similar (i.e., obvious) to really attract fans I think.

FRIENDS??!!!

"Friends" IS the quintessential "Wanna-be-Seinfeld" show! And it's about as funny as comic books.... over and over and over and over and over....

If it wasn't for watching Lisa Kudrow breathe, sit, blink (or whatever else she happened to be doing) there would have been NO POINT in ever tuning in a second time!

(Can David Schwimmer REALLY pee standing up, or was that supposition just used to keep the plot-line from getting too complicated?... it was never really cleared up on the show).

The "Friends" are all sensitive and they care about each other's "feelings" and they have to be there to "support" each other. Ross always wants to "hang out" and "be there" for each other. The "Friends" make me gag.

I'd take Seinfeld over the sappy friends any day. Cold, Callous, UnCaring - the three C's of Citcom Cuccess...

The sensitive Ross is gagalicious (how's that for combining two distinctly different words), but when he's not trying to act all serious he's pretty funny. Lisa Kudrow has for me always been the shows weakest link, while Matt LeBlanc has always been the shows strongest character.

I dont know if the seinfeld wannabe show was so similar in humor but it had a similar setup. A group of guys meeting in the lead guys apartment. I think he looked a bit like jerry and had a lazy boy he sat in it could be that his apartment had levels and the main living room was one step down

I don't know which show you are talking about, but I would have to say that "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is the most similar show to Seinfeld that I've ever seen. It's like the real life Seinfeld. From the mind of Seinfeld co-producer Larry David. Of course, everyone here probably already knows this.

Well its not a Wannabe, but in "The Complete Father Ted Scripts", the writers say a sequence of nice things about Seinfeld (e.g. "People who don't like Seinfeld would not get extra muffins at my house")

They also acknowledge the theft of a line from The Outing, hiding it as "Not that theres anything wrong with that sort of thing"
