Puerto Rican Day Parade

Ok... here's the thing: I live in Portugal and I have read more than once that The Puerto Rican Day episode was once banned in the USA. Maybe I'm a little to far away from America to understand all the fuss around the episode. Can anyone try to explain to me what was the big deal? Here in Portugal it played (twice) and it seemed preety harmless to me. Actually, I found it very flatering for Puerto Rican people. And it's definitelly one of my favorites (love that George...).

I would really like to have it explained. And I'd also want to read your opinions about the issue.

I definitely think the flag thing is one of the major objections to the show. However, Kramer's comment that "it's like this everyday in Puerto Rico" (not an exact quote but in close to what Kramer said when asked by Jerry if the roudieness (sp) & almost lawless behavior was typical.) This stereo-typing of Puerto Ricans as a riotous bunch of car-moving thugs is not a pretty picture to paint of a group of people. I certainly saw the humor and the Seinfeld intent seemed harmless, BUT I'm not a member of the minority that was given these poor profiles. Just my opinion.

If they wanted a more accurate portrayal of the real NYC Puerto Rican Day Parade, they might have included some women being gang raped in Central Park.

i think the "douse & grab" would be more accurate - but that was done on "Law & Order." of course that episode was then summarily banned by the network.

Sunday (6/10) is Puerto Rican Day and the parade will be televised by (you guessed it) NBC!

Were those guys gay? Goes to show how much of a damn i care about that stuff.(not that there's any thing wrong with it.) I was concerned because they were thugs.

I guess I got it... the flag being stomped isn't a preety sight - it is a national symbol and some people may feel ofended. But it's kinda... errr... a piece of cloth...?

Sometimes we get more tense about things that have nothing to do with us than the people who these topics are directed at. I'll be so glad when we are so pleased with who we are that we can take a little joke. I don't mean anything mean or hurtful. I mean things like blacks having rythym(which i don't see how that's a bad thing) or jewish mothers wanting their daughters marrying doctors. Some of those things are stereotypes but their not bad things. I'm glad you liked that episode. It shows that you're race proud and open minded.
