The law passed in Latham, Massachusetts, was apparently passed after a similar one in Paris--which, in turn, was supposedly inspired by the photographers standing around, shooting pictures of Diana's wreck Mercedes. The four said "Ohhhhh...." in response, like they were suddenly familiar with the idea--NOT like they had any sympathy for what happened to Lady Di.
Of course the reference was necessary. The Good Samaritan Law wouldn't have existed in any form if not for the fact that the reporters on the scene of Diana' accident were far more concerned with getting their pictures than in trying to help the victims. That was the reason for the law. How could anyone say the reference was unnecessary?
