Actually, I've been watching the show two seasons now. And I've seen a few reruns from the past seasons. Forgive me for not seeing every episode. But if you recall, Seinfeld used to run against Home Improvement, and we all know which show won that rating war. Anyway, I don't care for the stand-up bits at all-- they range from stupid to almost cute, but never quite funny. The show, on the other hand, is a different story. Not to start a flame war, but Seinfeld, on his own, just ain't a funny guy.

There was no stand-up routine in the end of the show tonight. Personally, I don't think the stand-up is very good, so it was fine with me. I've noticed that they have been playing around with the stand-up the last few shows, putting it in the middle a few times.

Anyway, originally the show was promoted/sold as a sitcom about how a comedian gets material for his stand-up act. To underline the connection between material and event, after the evnet, such as talking to the cops after being robbed, they would cut to Jerry doing a stand-up routine about the event, such as what the cops do when they find out you've been robbed. As a result they would often have the rouutines intercut throughout the show, not just the beginning and the end, but often one or two times in the middle. For some reason, as the show progressed, they began to rely less and less on the stand-up and only use it as a framing technique for the beginning and end of the show. Maybe Jerry was quickly running out of material, or they found the cuts interrupted the pacing of the show, only the producers know for sure. So the episodes with the stand-up bits in the middle were old ones. I doubt there are any recent episodes where they do that, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Also, they did cut out the final credits stand-up once or twice in the past season and replaced with one or two small scenes.
