Question about Kramer

Actually two questions. First of All I heard Kramer (don't know the guy's real name) is going to have his own sitcom. Is that true? In the sitcom, I don't think he plays his Seinfeld character but one that has the same mannerisms.

Second, Did the guy who played Kramer also start out on SCTV? My brother told me last night that he's the same guy that use to blow up little army men on SCTV. I was pretty young then and barely remember that. But I think my brother might be right. Is he?

How come there haven't been any Seinfeld spin-off's. I asked that before but never got a reply. It'd seem that a couple sitcoms would have sprung off of that. God I can think of a hundred potential sitcoms...The Soup Nazi could have his own show. Kramer could have his own show. Any number of the side characters could really. The Constanza's. Them in a retirement home in Florida trying to fit in. Jerry's parents. the possiblities are definately there.

Michael Richards (aka: Kramer) was a regular on the show FRIDAYS during the early-mid eighties with some hilarious sketches under his belt. He used to offer guests gum-bunnies. Damn he was funny on live TV as much of his humor was improvised .....

The guy who played Kramer is named Michael Richards. He was never on SCTV, but he was on another 1980s sketch show, i.e. Fridays.

There is a sitcom coming up this fall called the Michael Richards show. You probably won't see the show itself till after the Olympics, but promos are already being aired.

Yep. "The Michael Richards Show" airs Tuesdays at 8 PM (ET/PT) on NBC starting in September. He plays a private eye with some Kramer-style traits and a little Peter Sellers/Inspector Clouseau thrown in. Just seen the promos, don't know how it'll be. But the network didn't like the first pilot and it had to be reshot with some rewrites and recasting before they committed to it...

No, SCTV was shot in Toronto with an all Canadian cast, several of whose members (John Candy, Martin Short, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis among others) eventually became stars in the US as well. Richards was on an improv TV show, though...he was on ABC's "Fridays" for a couple of years in the early '80s, and that's what got him noticed.

That's Jerry Seinfeld's decision. He has allowed the character of Jackie Chiles, the Johnny Cochran-style lawyer, to be developed into a comedy pilot and in a series of commercials, with Phil Morris continuing in the role. (The pilot hasn't been shot yet, last I heard it ws being developed for Fall 2001.) But that's it. Most of the main players in the show weren't interested in spinoffs (only Michael Richards lobbied for one involving the Kramer character, and now he's got his own show anyway). And Seinfeld says he didn't want the franchise cheapened by a show that wasn't as strong as the original.

I think he also realized that the only one of the main characters who really had more room to grow, was his own...and by definition you don't do a spinoff of the title character, you just do another season. He didn't want to.
