Elaine thought it looked good in the store (Barney's) but when she got it home, she realized it looked like crap. She concludes that the mirrors at Barney's are rigged to make you look better than you actually do (she calls them "skinny mirrors"). Thus her later need to leave the store to check out the new dress before exchanging.
