Seinfeld/Kramer/Buckman

Oh TRIVIA gods of SEINFELD and MAD ABOUT YOU Please help me - I am mightly confused

During the first or second year of MAD ABOUT YOU Paul and Jamie had been living together for almost a year (but not married yet) Jamie managed to convince Paul to get rid of his old appartment. He kept title to the apartment, but was sub-letting it to a guy named KRAMER ! (played by Seinfeld's Kramer). When Paul visited Kramer they discussed that JERRY guy that lived next door AND.... the apartment numbers were the same as on SEINFELD.

I believe this was supposed to mean that Paul & Jerry, et al lived in the same 'New York TV Universe'.

That being said........ tonight's 9:30 episode of SEINFELD seemed to contradict this "FACT'. The 'backwards' episode (that featured scenes in the plot line in reverse order) seemed to suggest that Jerry moved into his apartment at least 11 years ago and the Kramer was already living across the hall.

Now... Jamie and Paul have not been married for anywhere near 10 or 11 years, so...... can anyone explain this lack of continuity.

(I know, I know, obviously the two shows don't have a 'TV Universe' continuity person working out all the trivia but I was just wondering if anyone could come up with a neat or imaginitive explanation !)

Yep, MAY had an episode in the first season where Paul had to get rid of his old apartment... this was after they were married. And, as it turned out, Kramer was subletting the apartment, and Paul happened to ask, "what's with that Jerry guy who lives across the hall"... And in the Seifeld episode repeated last night... at the end of the episode, and near the beginning of time of the Seinfeld universe, Jerry moves in and Kramer is already living across the hall, implying that Kramer was there before Jerry ('implying' is too weak :).

So what's with the disparity? The actual crossover was probably handled by MAY's producers and writers, and more a part of official MAY history (it *was* in one of their episodes) than the history of Seinfeld. Last night's Seinfeld episode was likely handled entirely by Seinfeld producers, and writers, who probably didn't do their homework. Or, they didn't care, and wanted create their own story... Or, we could create within-show consistency by saying the MAY universe is not exactly the same as the Seinfeld universe - i.e. the two Kramers are different...

Heck, there's probably even more than one MAY universe... the one where Jamie's parents look one way, the other another way, the other the other way. One where they have a fire escape out the window, another where they don't (I suppose it could have fallen off - do they have good building inspectors in New York :-)? Heck, pieces of Yankee Stadium are falling apart)

andy, i do recall that episode with reiser. it was a very short scene towards the end of the show i think and the only thing i remember is when reiser asked kramer whatever became of seinfeld. kramer gives a sarcastic remark about jerry being a comedien and reiser laughs it off as they pass jerry's apartment.

Just one more evidence for something I suggested in another post - they *are separate universes.

Interesting question.

Perhaps Paul sublet the apartment to Kramer, moved back in, and then sublet it to Kramer AGAIN. This would allow Paul to know Jerry and still allow Kramer to be there when Jerry moved in.

Possible?
