Was that whole thing with Vincent and Elaine a spoof of Scream, even down to the caller being a teenager?

No, it was a spoof of the TV show, "Beauty & The Beast," even down to the mysterious "creature's" name being Vincent. ;-)

Ah, yes... that makes sense.

Now, who was Gene a spoof of? Gene Siskel? Was that supposed to be a "thumbs-down" on his taste in movies? ("Weekend at Bernie's II")

(There was once a popular rockabilly/R&R performer named Gene Vincent, but let's not get into that....)

no, it was the TV show Beauty and the beast. Whcih by the way was on WGN every day until about 3 weeks ago.
