Does anyone else think that Elaine was unreasonably hostile towards George in the last episode? Slapping him repeatedly in the begining and asking if it hurt was bad enough. I what I couldn't understand is why she automatically assumed that it was George's fault that he and Kramer were late. She also seemed to take a mean delight in the fact that she had ruined his panama hat. Why is Elaine so hostile towards George? On a similar note, I thought that Elaine's harrasing of the bakery patrons for their numbers was unseemly - the sort of thing that George would do.

Yeah, I thought both of them were a bit over-self-absorbed even for them, Elaine and Jerry both. The bakery customers' reactions were wholly defensible.

As for the HH vs. JLD debate: Helen Hunt's character Jaime on MAY is a whole lot more likable than JLD's Elaine on Seinfeld. Elaine and all the other Seinfeld people are not at all real. They are a funny group of "characters" who seem to have a great time pointing out the banalities of life to us, much as Seinfeld himself does in his stand-up routines. MAY, while also being a TV show (ie, not always *real*) deals with the ins and outs (NO pun intended) of a marriage and tends to hit closer to home vis a vis the give and take between two people in love with each other. Elaine's mean streak toward George,and her general whiny-ness and unhappiness with everything and everybody make her less attractive, at least to me. Jaime seems to be more cooperative, less judgmental, and able to maintain a relationship.
I think I agree with whoever it was that posted a preference to sleep with JLD, butr marry HH. Although, re: Elaine's whiny-ness -> Jaime can be rather presumptuous too sometimes. It comes off as funny when she "plays mommy" to Paul, but that might bug me.

Nope, it was Helen Hunt...The movie was called "Only You" or something like that - just read it in someone's post. I saw the movie recently and it also starred Kelly Preston as the "psycho-bimbo." HH played a travel photographer who uses McArthy as a model for her shots. IMHO not a very good movie.
By chance, I also caught "Next of Kin" on HBO recently which also had HH in it. She played a violinist married to the Patrick Swayze character. IMHO again, not a very good movie.
Is this a trend? :-) Either way, I like her role in MAY.
Still haven't found the new MAY group(s), so sorry that this is in the Seinfeld group...

Don't flame me for this, but: her time of the month? Plus, she has never been too 'sweet' as far as i'm concerned. I like that she has a bit of spunk. You'd have to have spunk to keep up with the others on the show. As far as I can tell, no one on the show minds stepping on some feet now and then. Plus, maybe it was just her time. All of the others have gone wacko at some point.

I think she's trying to be that way. I remember the beginnig of the jerry-is-gay episode, they were sitting in the diner and she made some mean joke about Jerry and he said: "you know, you've been developing quite the acid tongue lately" and she replied: "REALLY?!?" and gave this big happy smile, like it was her intent to be able to rip on the boys with the best of 'em. I like it. I know that I'm like that, I love being able to mess around with my friends & make jokes, but my friends aren't nearly as neurotic as hers, so it may come off as "mean" when she does it, and just playful when I do it. Although, I do agree that she gets kind of obnoxious when she harrasses total strangers like in the bakery, but that's her quirky trait I guess.

That's part of the sexual under-current that lays beneath the surface of their friendship. Maybe they're both "curious" about what IT would be like together, but realize that carrying through on the curiousity would ruin their friendship. In a way I think it's a bit realistic.

My favorite part in last weeks episode (I'm lauging now) is when Jerry is talking about 'look to the cookie' and shows his cookie to an older black guy across the room, who briefly acknowledges him.
