Don,

Please do not feel the need to defend yourself. In my comment to the other person asking if anyone dealt with you before, I did not attack your credibility. I simply stated an opinion. I simply stated to be careful who you deal with over the internet, especially when they ask the buyer to send their money first. Don't you think that is good advice?

Now if you were affiliated with say, amazon.com, or some other reputable merchant, I wouldn't be so hesitant in sending my money first. However though, you are not! You are simply someone who frequents this newsgroup and is trying to sell a collection of videotape seinfeld episodes. How are we, the buyer, suppose to know what we are getting, and if we are getting it? Just because you say you'll send something, are we suppose to be at your mercy? Do you think that everyone who does business with ebay is legit?

As a buyer, I use caution when it comes to sending $100 to someone I never met before. For that matter, anyone can make a false alias and defend your credibility in this newsgroup. Not saying your doing it, but just stating it can be done. You also say people get what they pay for. True, and anyone can duplicate vhs seinfelds on tv, all they need is a vcr, so please do not act like you have some magical DVD quality seinfeld episodes on tape.

My opinion is, if people want to be foolish enough to send you their money first, so be it. I'm not trying to hurt your side job here, as you stated you are getting laid off soon from work, I am also. All of the reasons you stated for being adamant with receiving the money first, you ought take into consideration how the buyer feels. If the buyer is smart, they will find out they do not need to settle for anyone, or anyone's terms. It's their money, so it should be their terms. If you decide to not send us what we buy, are we suppose to turn you in for trying to buy illegal tapes? That would be smart, eh?

I found someone who sent me numerous seinfeld episodes first, before payment, and I am happy with the avenue I chose. Good luck with your side job Don!

You are absolutly right in every respect. If I don't get the service I desire, I take my money elsewhere. you have every right to not dela with someone who you do not know. I think that is sound advice however to state it after the fact you mentioned that I was so adament about implies that I was the target of your statement. granted, it is a generalization of the case, but none the less, PR either good or bad is not always good. what you made it sound like was I was a fly by night operation and was shady. yes, by the nature of the product I am selling, I have to be both careful and somewhat anonymous (Sp) so I ask for the money upfront. 9 out of 10 people do not have a problem with it. most who purchase the set or sets have followed my posting and have followed the newsgroup and watched to see if anybody said if I ripped them off or not. I have asked a few people that frequent the newsgroup and have bought my product to post an endorsement.

I can't remember who it was but a couple of months back some people started to bad mouth by work (the cds and encoding not the einfeld series) I got offended at it becuase I worked hard on them and even if the person didn't agree with my practice or method, I did'nt feel that a comment to the effect was needed. So I got mad and sent this big long speil and effectively was not going to sell them again. well a day later a person from austria (I later found out) defended my position and I felt I had one person (many people I later found out) to be on my side and appriciated my effort. I sent that person a free set for it. The point was that I flew off the handle and didn't take into account his opinion was just as valid as mine. I stand by my work and even though the first time around I marketed these to overseas customers, alot of domestic orders came as well. I didn't really expect it however. I did have some supply problems early on and I later ironed them out. everybody was most understanding.

I defended my position as a merchant. I am also a legitimate product merchant and believe in the same customer service as in here. money talks and BS walks. my reason for requesting money up front is two fold. first is I don't make the set unless there is an order for it. and two of which falls in this catagory. How do I know the requestor can be trusted. commerce is a two way street. if I were to know you then I would have no problem with it BUT I don't. I understand your point completely having got ripped off on ebay a couple times. I also sell on ebay and I try to maintain the highest rating I can get. so far I have not had one bad comment. I regard that to be an assest. credibility is an assest not to be underestimated.

I have been selling these in here for going on five months now. I certainly would not benifit from even stealing from one person in here because I am sure, most certainly, that everybody would have heard it. just like what you have said here cannot go unanswered. I used to think it was of no use to defend it but if I do not it is just the same as leaving doubt in the mind of a potential customer. I have had my fair share of ranting in this group to of which everybody will attest (this message included). I beleive I have had more then my fifeteen minutes of fame as well. not to mention taking up space in this newsgroup with somewhat unrelated mesages (although it does seem to stir up more conversation, of which is really what newsgroups are about)

you are right, I do not sell the magic copy of seinfeld. The reason I said that you get what you pay for is becuase the person you bought those 70 episodes no doubtedly downloaded them from the free site that offers them or off one of the many peer to peer networks. no real effort was placed on them from what I gather. the person most likely just burned them to a disc (other peoples hard work of encoding them) and sold them to you. something that you could have done yourself. but you paid for the convience of it. instead of looking for them and downloading them you went the easy route of convience. OF Which I sell as well. However the difference being this. I make all episodes availible (169) plus both volumes of bloopers plus jerry seinfelds album on mp3 plus alot of scripts (of which I admit are the work of someone else) plus some rare picture plus. a coupl audio clips. now since I offer all the episodes and advertise it. that is all I should be required to deliver. but I go the step further and add the 24th disc on which is all bonus material (bloopers etc) it is not required of me but it is something I add in for more value. also all episodes are recorded in a standard format and designed to run from the discs instead of having to be copied to a hard drive (hence the use of real media) where as your product I am sure has alot of different encodes on it and possible formats. all though what you bought is also a vaild product, I can imagine that much effort was put into it or at least not as much as I have put into mine. Still though, you should stand by your desicion as well. In your defense, I told you that you should buy them as they are easily converted over to another format for other purposes (VCD). if you have what I suspect you have then look at episode twelve the revenge. it has some mysterious line running through them. also watch some episodes and notice the background light seems to change from time to time (that is the encode) look at some of the other episodes. do you see any station ids on them or worse yet, weather bulletions. you get what you pay for. Mine do not have that becuae I went out to spefically find a studio set of which to encode these from. also the fact that they are uncut and there is also no loss of signal. granted the divx codex is superior to real media but it really has to be known how to work with it to get the most out of it. also to get them to acomparable size or even lower is very hard not to mention the fact that the play back is not consistant from machine to machine since the computer decodes it on the fly. I researched all of the possiblities before deciding on the real media format (many people despise the real media format) but I felt it delivered the best of what I needed at the time.

anyhow I have wasted enough of everybodies time on this. I apoligize if everyone was offended at yet another of my LOOOONNNGGG rants.

as for Roy, I hope you see my position as well.

Well, I suppose he's not a "legitimate product" merchant, but I think he's still a legitimate "product merchant." :-)

well hell I never even considered posting false praises. Don't need to though as my actions wil speak for me. Of course I am not going to post it in here because, well obvious reasons, I only deal with people I have established a solid dialogue with.

I will send it to your email though. However I must stress if you are buying them just to prove your point, I don't want you to. Unless you truely want them. Although I am almost certain you would be happy with the product, I don't want you to buy another set just to get the point across.

anyhow I will send more in email. don't want to waste bandwidth here.
