THE FINAL EPiSode

did anyone catch that last episode of Seinfeld!? what a funny show. that fat guy was funny.

Actually I thought (and many otheres) thought that the last episode was not that funny. I got to say that the fat guy was funny, but the whole wasn't up to quality with older Seinfeld shows, in my opinion.

Jerry tried to do a few things out of the goodness of his heart, but they always blew up in his face. But then, he was selfish, too, like when he was sleeping with the maid. George was the eternal schemer. The closest example I can think of is a certain leader of one of the world's most powerful countries who is currently heading to another large country. Even if the truth would be easier for him and would gain more ground, George wouldn't be truthful because it's not in his nature. And, like that leader, he always seems to be able to deflect the major portions of the repercussions to someone else. Kramer is just a hipster dufus.

The biggest life I had that night was after the conviction. They were convicted for doing NOTHING!!!!

I think it would of been funny if they would of shown Elaine in prison too-wearing the orange in the womens side.

Great point!!! They should have shown Elaine in prison. The situation with her separated from the (all male) gang has great comic potential because they are her only real friends and she doesn't really get along with other women. This is only one example of a neglected opportunity in the series finale. It was a good story, but too much was left hanging or not developed enought.

Many people thought that the final episode was rather poor, but me, I liked it. It put the characters basic veiw of the entire world in perspective, and basically showed that they (being representive of america) were really just a bunch of selfish assholes.

I thought the final episode was perfect.  I guess a lot of people were
looking for sentimental.   Senimental is something that Seinfeld has always
tried to stay away from.   This was a show about idiots, loosers, and people
who didn't care about anyone.  The final episode stayed true to the show and
at the same time brought back some familiar guests.

You're right, I think many people wanted a more sentimental last show...I've also heard the complaint that it wasn't funny enough. Well, Seinfeld was never "funny" like a conventional sitcom (set-up...punchline... ..set-up...punchline). It nearly always had its own unconventional structure. At its best, it was more character driven than joke driven.

Anyway, back to the final episode. They were arrested, tried and convicted of doing...Nothing. Forced to face all of their selfish, petty actions of the past nine years...and still (true to the vision of the show), they didn't learn, grow or hug.

IMHO, the Finale just tried to hard. Larry David wanted to do something grand, but Seinfeld didn't become popular off "grand". David wanted to create something big that would encompass almost a decade of success and be innovative at the same time. The idea was admirable, the jail ending was attractive and workable, but it turned into a clip show of old jokes. There was too much reliance on old material instead of creating new humor. David should have concentrated on writing a new show peppered with subtle references for the seasoned viewer.
