It's his character. A lot of people get nervous before a wedding. Its just that George is so nerotic (sp?) that these feelings are increased.
Because George is an anally retentive matrimoniphobe, that's why!
Now he's even happier because if Susan doesn't trust him then she can't marry him!
George thought that he and Jerry had a "pact" to become more mature and make a commitment. George committed and Jerry didn't. George feels that Jerry broke the "pact". Since then George has wanted out of the marriage proposal. But he's too wimpy to be straight forward and break it off.
