I think Seinfeld was the greatestTV show ever, but I never saw Seinfeld's comedy act. But from what I can glean from the series it sure doesn't seem like something I could watch for more than two or three minutes on the Carson show. Seems like a young Andy Rooney. Have I got it wrong?

Fans debate whether Jerry Seinfeld's comedy style is similar to Andy Rooney's, with most agreeing they share surface similarities but differ significantly in subject matter and tone.

Their styles are similar but thre are some major differences. For one, Rooney likes to comment on sociopolitical issues or otherwise 'newsworthy' events while Jerry likes to comment on the trivial yet universal. Also, Rooney seems to enjoy insulting the subjects of his monologues, whereas you're hard pressed to find anyone who's insulted by Jerry's comedy.
There are more differences. Can someone pick it up from here?

So there is a similarity in that they comment on life's trivialities but come at it in different ways. Now if you guys in the States got This Hour Has 22 Minutes or Air Farce...now there is some great political comedy to talk about...

It's funny...I always thought of George Carlin as a younger version of Andy Rooney. And Jerry fits into that category as well. It's known as observational humor.
