relations between the casts

While I wasn't that into the series when it is on, I always read about the supporting cast (Alexander, Dreyfus, Richards) upset about their pay. Also when the DVDs were announced, they originally said no as they wouldn't get paid and after they did agree, the commentaries are Seinfeld and David. And just the supporting cast 3 on others. Did the four of them get along? Or was the supporting casts problems simply with the management?

As I recall the cast of the show got along quite well on and off the set. This money problem thing arose around the beginning of the 8th season. You have to remember that Jerry was getting a large amount of money ALMOST from the very beginning because he owned & was involved in every aspect of the show. I think the cast (Kramer,George & Elaine) were finally was able to negoitate a contract for a tidy sum of money for each show by the 8th season . This was short lived because at the midpoint of season #9 Jerry announced that it was over at the end of the season. I'm sure this created some resentment between Jerry and the 3 other co-stars. They finally get what they consider a fair contract and Jerry pulls the plug on the show. Naturally, when Jerry comes back to them for extras for the DVD at very little or no payment, the 3 costars were luke warm at best. Apparently things worked out. They got their money & fans got the DVD. The Big 4 even appeared together on Ophra recently to promote the DVD release. My facts might not be totally accurate but this it represents my recollection.

Ah, thanks for the info. I was never really into the show when it was on, but the last few weeks I am hooked.

I also read an article that said none of the three (Julia, Jason, Michael) had any rights to the show in syndication, so they don't receive royalties at all.

That's not right as they were just as much part of the show as anyone.

What's not right about it? Jerry and Larry David were the creators and owners of the show, the ones who took the initiative and risk to get it on the air. They every right to the benefits of having the show in syndication. The others were paid very well for their services, but it's absurd to suggest they have any ownership rights.

That they get NO compensation. I'm not saying it should be equal. They should get some compensation.

Never mind, I just read that they do get compensated for the syndication and are getting paid handsomely for appearing on the DVD sets.

Someone attached a clipping on another thread from CNN from when Alexander and Dreyfus walked away and commented that all 3 co-stars had received $100,000 a year in royalties for the show in syndication and I do recall that they did get compensated for appearing on the DVDs.

They definitely got paid for the DVDs. I think one thing that delayed the DVDs for so long was the issue of money, and how they didn't get paid for syndicated shows. Maybe this is a new deal they are getting now, not sure...

I think that sums it up pretty well. Personally, I would liked to have heard the commentary on the DVD's with Jerry interacting with the other three. Maybe the future releases will have that.
