Any place to find more information on who wrote and performed the famed Seinfeld bass lick?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but the Seinfeld bass sounds like a synthesiser. Is it a synth or is it a real bass? (or is it a synth which uses digital samples of a real slap bass?)
