"Now you know how I feel"

In the UK I'm watching nightly re-runs of the whole Seinfeld canon. At present they're running 1992 episodes. I've just watched one where there was a joke I'm sure they used twice, the only occasion I can remember it happening. Jerry is in his apartment, the phone rings and the guy on the phone tries to sell Jerry something and Jerry says "I can't talk now, but if you give me your home number I'll ring you back" The guy says "Er, we can't to that" "Oh" replies Jerry, "is that because you don't want people ringing you at home"? "That's right" says the salesman. "Well now you know how I feel" says Jerry.

I know I saw the same joke in a more recent show a couple of months ago.

Yep, there was another episode that contained a bit with a telemarketer, although it wasn't exactly the same. The second one was in "The Yada Yada":

[phone rings] Caller: Would you be interested in a subscription to the New York Times? Jerry: Yes. [Slams down phone]

No that wasn't it. I remember the one you mean, which was as you describe. The bit I'm talking about was exactly the same on both instances, I saw the other, later, one quite recently, probably in the last season.

LOL, if the bit was identical, perhaps it was only in one episode and you've just seen it twice? ;-)

Well, what I meant was the script was virtually the same. I'm certain however that it was two separate shows. The apartment setting (people present etc) was subtly different. I repeat that although I saw both shows within weeks of each other, one was from 1992, and the other was from probably the last season, (1998?). The BBC were showing the final season weekly up till a few weeks ago, and another digital channel, Paramount is showing older seasons, currently 1992.

One of life's mysteries obviously.

BBC stopped showing it a couple of months ago. It's possible you saw the same episode on Paramount a fair while back and linked it to the BBC showings which started around the time that episode was on Paramount earlier this year. Around June i think it would have been on.

It definitley wasn't used twice the gag.

Maybe you saw it on a videotape of the eps?

How are you certain? Eyewitness testimony is notoriously inaccurate. While it's possible you're correct (anything's possible, after all), the fact that no one else (not even the local Seinfeld fanatics) remembers the exact same bit being used in two different episodes suggests that your memory is faulty. Sorry!

It's on The Clipshow, I think.. (The 2nd to last episode, recently on BBC2.)
