indeed, aluminIum is a good choice for a festivus pole as it has a high strength to weight ratio, in other words, it is light yet strong.

That said, I do not believe it is essential to have a pole made from aluminIum. I don't think it forms part of the core faith of festivus. Fundamental Festivites will insist aluminIum. I believe the core faith of Festivisdom covers:

-A festive holiday for the rest of us

-Shortly before christmas

-Must include a pole. Frank Costanza used aluminIum however he stated that there must be a pole. I do not think the material used to make the pole is crucial

-The pole must not be decorated, as decorations may be distracting. Whether other decorations were used is unclear (to quote FC a little out of context "the man on the tape wasn't specific") however we do know that there is to be no decoration on the pole.

-There is a meal. Exactly what the meal should be, again, is unclear.

-Airing of grievances. The form this must take is not spelt out though it may be lead by the head of the household.

-Feats of strength. Exactly what feats of strength are performed is unclear. There is a suggestion that Festivus is not over until someone gets pinned. Whether this be a standard 3 count pinfall or some other pin is unclear. There may also be other feats of strength, perhaps tossing a caber, involving weights, hammer toss etc

There is some suggestion that poetry may be read as part of Festivus celebrations. I am not sure this forms the core belief of festivus however.

In reference to "feats of strength," is this Festivus tradition exclusive to males or do females participate as well? And if so, are the feminine feats of strength merely physical or can they be intellectual or, perhaps, artistic?

There is the strong indication that Festivus is not over 'until you pin me'. That strongly indicates some physical activity but does leave open the possibility of other feats of strength as well.
