Remembering "The Contest"

According to the FAQ list, the episode in question titled "The Phone Message" and it was from the second season.

I saw this one, but I missed the first five minutes, so I didn't actually hear the message. Can anybody give me a hint? I mean, I can guess, I suppose, but I certainly missed out on some of the humour. The reaction of "The boys" *was* classic.

And did I get that right in the above, you people in the States don't see Michael Richards' Clorets ad? My friend thinks it's hilarious, and I guess it's ok, but it's not too great.

And who out there finds George's groaners too painful to watch sometimes?

Are you referring to the episode where Elaine leaves a sexy message on Jerry's recorder which he leaves on during his stand-up routines? They didn't reveal any of the message in the show, only Elaine doing some examples to George. That's pretty typical of Seinfeld I think... to talk about sex and other maybe revealing topics without ever directly doing it. Like that hilarious episode where they try to guess the girlfriend's name which rhymes with a female body part? Was it Mulva? Loleola? Celeste?

Not quite.

"The Phone Message" is from the second season and deals with *George* leaving multiple messages (and progressively more neurotic :-) on a woman's machine. As a sidebar, this is also the ep where Jerry gets in trouble with then-current girlfriend, Donna, for mentioning the Dockers commercials to George and Kramer.

"The Tape" is from the third season in which Elaine plays a joke on Jerry by leaving a sexy message on his answering machine. We never hear the message.

I thought Elaine left the message on a tape recorder he left running at the back of the room in which he was doing his stand-up routine, so he could listen to himself later and hear how he sounds to the audience.

No one knows, other that it was incredibly filthy and no doubt appealed to everyone prurient interests.
