Carol Liefer's Show

Anyone in the group watch Carol Liefer's show ALRIGHT ALREADY (follows UNHAPPILY EVER AFTER [aside: with the awesome Nikki Cox] on Sundays on the Time Warner startup)? It's a funny, entertaining sitcom, and can be considered the logical progeny of the seminal SEINFELD. Why 'logical'? On account of the fact that Ms. Liefer used to be the story editor on the latter (for how many seasons, I'm not certain; also, didn't she used to date Mr. Seinfeld?).

It is explicitly obvious that she has liberally transplanted certain elements of the show-about-nothing and adopted them for her own vehicle. She has integrated them well enough with her own biases to be more than merely a carbon copy clone of her former employer. Carol is essentially Jerry...many of the joke setups revolve around pieces of observations about everyday happenstance...and the plots and characterizations also recall reactions similar to Jerry's show. Of special note is Carol's father, who definitely IS Jerry's father (I should also note Carol's sister is somewhat akin to Kramer, although not precisely; believe it or not, Cosmo is more practical and much more capable).

I enjoy the program, and would be interested in what others might have to say, especially on levels of comparison.

I have seen it 3 or 4 times and find it very funny - if it were on NBC and given some promotion it would be very successful. There are definite Seinfeld elements to it, which, as you wrote, is acceptable, due to Leifer having worked on Seinfeld. I actually thought Seinfeld borrowed from Alright Already 2 weeks ago, when Kramer moved to the retirement condo community - in Alright Already, Carol's sister, who is in her twenties, lives with her parents in such a community, and engages in their retirement activities. Also, Alright Already features the gorgeous Amy Yasbeck, who I could watch on any show, no matter the how much else I liked about it.

I watched the 1st 2 episodes. The 1st was good, but the 2nd stank and I have not seen it since. That could possibly be bad.

I watched one or two as well. Some of the lines delivered by Carol sound very Elaine-like. She is positioned to be the"Jerry Seinfeld" of the show. Personally, I don't find Carol a compelling or charismatic actress as the star, despite some very good writing for which I am sure she is to be credited. Too bad, but if the lead doesn't catch on, the show will have a hard time making it. alt showbiz gossip
