I was at a Wegman's supermarket in Buffalo, NY looking for Bosco and Drake's coffee cake and couldn't find such items. I even made a fool of myself asking the clerk. Someone please tell me if these products indeed exist. I didn't hesitate to look before because of all the other product placement on the show (e.g. Snapple, Oh Henry bars, Rold Gold pretzels, etc..)

Well Bosco certainly exists. At least it used to. I can't say I've seen it recently but was indeed a choc. syrup like Ovaltine or Hersheys.

Both products do indeed exist, and are found in New York area supermarkets. As Ned pointed out, Bosco is a chocolate-flavored syrup, similar to Hershey's. Bosco has some nostalgia appeal to baby-boomer New Yorkers because Bosco sponsored some local TV children's shows and advertised heavily on them, way back when. I'm not sure whether Bosco has any distribution beyond the metropolitan NY area. BTW, some New Yorkers will actually argue whether an egg cream tastes better when made with Bosco or with Fox's U-Bet, another local chocolate-flavored syrup; traditionalists use Fox's.
Drake's coffee cake is a popular pre-packaged cake. It's a light-colored, sweet cake with cinammon topping, which makes it a good complement to coffee. It's pretty good as far as factory-produced cake goes, although it will never compete with the better neighborhood bakeries (what's left of them). I don't know which package you saw on the show, but I've seen them in an individual size (about 3" diameter), 8-box of cupcake size, and a large size (pie-size), suitable for serving when company comes and you're too lazy to go to the bakery. Drake's probably is a regional factory bakery; several larger cities have such local brands.

Personally, I remembered getting them in my lunch bag during elementary school. The small kind you referred to. Then, if I had any money left over after school, I'd pick up a BIG one at the local convenience store. Massive sugar buzz. Quite addictive. Frankly, I just don't know how we all survived eating those things!

Drake's cakes, I don't know which version of the product the
viewer spotted;Actually, I said, "suitable for serving when company comes and you're too lazy to go to the bakery." If a neighbor drops in, this coup de grace can be forgiven; otherwise, you're quite right. If you were criticizing the sentence construction, mea culpa.
It'll catch up with you. Give it about 10-20 years.

YOU made a fool of yourself?! I spent many a time during my x-mas vacation in the US asking in stores for Junior Mints and Jujy Fruits. I found them both in the end too, even though the Jujy Fruits tried their best to hide from me.

All these things exist, and all are readily available in the Philadelphia area. Drake's coffee cakes really are excellent!

Concur with Clark and Bosco. Drake's is also definitely real. Drake's has a whole line of snack cakes, similar to Hostess. Coffee Cakes are one of their products. /GW

When I was a kid in the 50s, Bosco was a sponsor for numberless TV shows. In my peer group, it was #1 for making chocolate milk, putting on ice cream, etc. Way better than Hershey syrup. No competition from Quick powder. There even was a JINGLE which I can almost remember. Can anybody flesh this out?
