I can honestly say that I've never missed an original airing of a SEINFELD episode. Not even the 1989 airing of the pilot. I was familiar with Jerry's comedy through his appearances on THE TONIGHT SHOW (a monologue about chintzy Halloween masks cracked me up), and so when I saw a story on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT that he was doing a sitcom pilot called "The Seinfeld Chronicles," I was anxious to see it. And I thought it was just hilarious -- way too good for a summer cast-off. When no further episodes aired, I gave up hope for the show. Well, as you all know, SEINFELD came back in the summer of 1990. And I've followed the show through all its schedule changes since then. (Remember what a good team-up it was with MAD ABOUT YOU on Wednesday nights?)
The closest I came to missing an episode was when in the summer of 1992. I was in my high school's marching band back then, and every year we would have a "band camp" during the summer. Basically, we'd go to some ratty summer camp and practice for a week. Anyway, SEINFELD was running some new episodes that August, and "The Trip, Part 2" was scheduled to air during the week I was at camp. Fortunately, a cabin-mate of mine had a small portable TV, and I watched the episode -- with a terrible picture and almost unlistenable sound. No one else in the cabin seemed to give a damn about SEINFELD then. They'd never heard of it and were extremely loud while I was trying to watch.
Still, I didn't miss that -- or any other -- SEINFELD episode. Not ever. I didn't try to be obsessive about it; it just worked out that way.
So, have I set some kind of world record? Has anyone else accomplished this feat? SEINFELD, by the way, is the only TV show in history that I've never missed. Except for MOONLIGHTING, which I stuck with til the bitter end. And FRANK'S PLACE, which was on too short for it to count.
Anyway, has anyone else been a never-miss-it SEINFELD fan since day one?
