Seinfeld 'replacement'

I thought it'd be nice to take a break from Daniel Tropea's endless 'on topic' Divas Live messages (note to Daniel: it's not on topic, and even if it is, KEEP IT TO ONE MESSAGE! Sheesh) and discuss something else.

So, what programme should take over Seinfeld's time slot after this series? I'm hoping, but not expecting, NewsRadio will do it, as it's pretty much the only other truly funny thing on NBC. I have one request though, if NBC is reading: please, do not put Mad About You on that timeslot. Just bloody cancel it, it's horrible.

There's one show that has flat out said it doesn't want to move to that time slot, which is Just Shoot Me. David Spade used the apt analogy, 'It's like someone asking us if we want to stand in a parking spot where a Porshe used to be. It's useless without the Porshe though'.

NB: I am aware that the Thursday night timeslot is fairly useless without its anchor, which is mainly Seinfeld, so if the show isn't likeable, Thursday will die from 8 - 10, when ER comes on. But let's just pretend for a bit.

Incidentally, does anyone understand why NBC shows Seinfeld repeats on Wednesdays? I mean, they're showing virtually nothing but repeats on Thursdays as well; at this rate, we're going to be sick of this series before it ever hits syndication. I can't imagine it's getting terrific ratings on Wednesdays either, though I've not checked. It just seems superfluous, especially if you're just going to show a repeat on Thursday as well.

The most important thing for NBC is to make sure the 9PM-11PM (on East coast) block stays strong. They want some show that could build hug lead-ins for ER like Seinfeld does now. That's why they should put Friends there, and should get a different show to put on at the Friends timeslot. Friends has already proven itself so NBC knows it's strong enough to put at the current Seinfeld slot. Any show that hasn't proved itself would be a risk not only for the 9 PM slot but also ER as well. By puttling on a strong show at 9 PM and already having a strong show at 10 PM (ER), they can get many people to watch the 9:30 PM sitcom who otherwise might not watch it.

It still gets higher ratings than the shows they had on before.

I have one word for all of you, "Frasier".

I have to agree that Frasier would be the best choice for this slot. Both Cheers and Seinfeld had humor that appealed to people with more refined tastes as far as humor was concerned. Frasier fits the mold perfectly. Heck, it's a spinoff of a show that had that same timeslot!

I'm a male, 22, and I love Frasier. So, while Frasier may not appeal to every viewer 18-49, it does have some appeal to us. I mean, there are three sitcoms that I will, voluntarily, sit and watch Seinfeld, Frasier, and The Simpsons. Frasier deserves a Thursday night time slot, much more than the others. Newsradio, while it is a good show, has yet to prove that it can be consistently funny. Everyone knows that NBC isn't going to give the time slot to Friends, and Just Shoot Me is just to young, and needs time to develop. Frasier's been on the air five years, the quality has been consistent throughout those five years, and it's ratings have stayed relatively high despite NBC sending it on a suicide move to Tuesday nights. Remember, Frasier started out on Thursday nights where it did very well. In conclusion, Frasier deserves the Seinfeld slot.

Does anyone REALLY like Veronica's closet? I wonder if a blank screen between Seinfeld and ER would get better ratings, Hey it might be close<g>. I would guess many people just leave the set on at 9:30 and do the dishes.

How about a new series, STEINFELD? The series would revolve around curly haired stand up comedian Joey Steinfeld (not sure who should play him) and his slightly off kilter friends including his ex-girlfriend Ellen, his pathetic buddy John Canstanmen, and his conman nextdoor neighbour Kranmer. Just imagine, a series almost like Seinfeld, but at a quarter of the cost.

They need Friends at 8 to bring in people for the 8-11 block. 3rd Rock should replace Seinfeld because it gets good ratings when its not being tossed around between Wednesday(Sitcom hell) and Sunday(if people want aliens, they'll watch the X-Files.) I'd watch it if it wasn't always competing with better shows like Party of Five.

actually thats not true...3rd rock has never got the ratings that "just shoot me", or "Frasier" has gotten except when it was placed directly after the super bowl and thats also when over 2 million was spent on its advertising budget by nbc hemselves
