Why Weekend at Bernie's II?

Why was this utterly bad movie chosen when so many other borderline picks would've seemed so much more characteristic of the "Seinfeld" writing spirit?

Plot turns do not always have to make sense, we expect that, but the end was just unbelievable in an annoying way. Elaine brings a vcr and tape to Kramer in the hospital. First, there is no tv sitting there nor is it clear that she brings cables to hook it up. And you can't watch a vcr without a monitor.

Like what for example?

My feeling is that "Weekend At Bernie's II" was chosen as a jibe at Jonathan Silverman (who co-starred in the "Bernie" movies with Andrew McCarthy, a stiff--er, I mean, AND a stiff!) whose execrable show "The Single Guy" preceded "Seinfeld" when that episode first aired.

Yet another connection is that Brad Hall (Mr. Julia Louis-Dreyfus) was the producer of "The Single Guy."
