Programme of Possible Interest to UK viewers

Tonights episode of 'Mark Lamarr's Stand Up America' (BBC2, 10.30) has the following description in my TV listings, "How top stand-up comedians, such as Jerry Seinfeld, evolved into sitcom stars."

Janet: Well maybe we do look a little like each other.

George: No..hummm, What do you know about what you look like?

Kramer: C'mon George relax. Just because they look alike doesn't mean you're secretly in love with Jerry.

There was quite a lot of stuff about black comedy - Def Comedy Jam people, the Original Kings of Comedy and Jerry's pal Chris Rock - plus Roseanne Barr, Bill Hicks, Johnny Carson, a fat guy who used to scream a lot whose name I've forgotten, who died in a car accident, and a few others.

Yep there was disappointingly little of Jerry, surely one of the most important comedians of recent times. Also while black comedy may have been important (and I do like Chris Rock's stuff) as Mark Lamarr said it was only on late night HBO and not in the mainstream consciousness. Thus it begged the question what or who has been in the mainstream during the 90s? One of the criticisms of the series was it's cursory nature and tonights ep did seem lack breadth and depth as well for that matter.

The Kinison skit on homosexual necrophilia was hilarious though!
