Was ANYONE disappointed by Soup Nazi?

I read about the Soup Nazi episode before I saw it and how people raved. When it was rerun I was majorly disappointed. The Soup Nazi just wasn't funny. I'm big for catch phrases, but "No soup for you!" just wasn't funny. The whole episode basically bored me. Clay Kawski [email]

The guy they refer to as "The Soup Nazi" wasn't terribly impressed either. In fact, he hated it!

As Jonathan Ropollo said in another thread, one of the Seinfeld show's virtues is that it doesn't overplay the jokes. In the Soup Nazi episode, for example, we see Newman step up, obey the rules, get his soup, and walk out happy. Nobody even says "Hello, Newman." Newman's presence is enough.

Another thing I liked very much is the suspense as Elaine relies on her charm to get herself served. You know that the cuter she tries to be, the more trouble she's making for herself; it's just that she has no idea she's not winning the Soup Nazi over as she taps her fingers ba-BOM-BOM-BOOM on the metal counter... PS - Anyway, anything with Alexandra Wentworth is great...

Wow, i loved it! Elane finding the recipes was good, but the whole "schmoopey" thing was the best. Poor George, will he ever be able to stand on his own?

I think the Soup Nazi episode was funny. The side plots were funny as well.

I've watched it a few times, and I think the "Schmoopy" plot was funny, where Jerry and his girlfriend were calling each other "Schmoopy." Then when they broke up after the Soup Nazi incident, the argument between George and Jerry about The Pact was funny. Jerry says "all we did was shake on it" then George yells "AH-HAA!" Then George competes with him in the diner with Susan and calls her "Sweetie-weetie-weetie" I also noticed there was a lot of running in it. Kramer ran away when the two guys stole the armoire, he and Jerry ran away when they confronted the two guys, and finally Newman was "running home to get a big pot" after the Soup Nazi closed. Jerry then runs home too.

I'm sorry but the Soup Nazi was a hilarius lunatic. How can you bastardize such fine comedy? Don't you see? Everybody in Seinfeld is a bunch of lunatics? That's what makes the show funny. Shea

The whole ordering process, how they ate the soup with such excitement and disbelief, George didn't get any because of his bread so he begs jerry for some and chastises him for eating in front of him, the "bullies" that attack Kramer and take Elaine's armour <sp?>, a good deal of Newman, Kramer's respect for the misunderstood "soup genius". I thought is was pretty funny. The best part was when Jerry denies "schmoopy" in the soup line. The whole PDA thing was pretty cool too. I liked it.
