Stealing Seinfeld lines

Living in the UK where Seinfeld isn't very well known, I have been inserting dialogue from the shows into my conversations and passing it off as my own. For example:

'Serenity now, insanity later' ( slipped this in when someone was talking about Buddhism)

'I think you know my policy'

'I practically raised his kids' ( disappointed with the response - I think it's a classic Kramer line - maybe it was my delivery)

Reference to 'Jimmy legs' ( got a BIG laugh out of this which is strange since taken out of context I would have thought it was meaningless)

As I understand it (and I could easily be wrong), "Great Britain" is the island composed of England, Scotland, and Wales. The "United Kingdom" is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland. The "British Isles" is Great Britain and all of Ireland. And the "British Commonwealth" is composed of the UK and its allies/territories, such as Canada, Australia, and a bunch of little former colonies.

But as Todd said, since Seinfeld isn't shown regularly in the UK it may also include portions of Hell and/or Purgatory...

The Channel Islands (to the south of England) are part of Great Britain (and therefore UK).

Britain and Great Britain are the same thing.

The Commonwealth refers to the former Empire most of which was given back over the past century or so.

The lasting bit seems to be the Commonwealth Games in which all the former countries come together for a medium-sized Olympics and takes place every 4 years. It's a very big event though.

Research was done into why us Brits never got Seinfeld and the answer was that there are too many references to American culture (films etc) which many people just didn't know about. Most Brits don't really give a toss what's going on in the States and vice versa so a comedy which has a lot of references to political and current events in one country was not going to take off in overseas territories. Has Seinfeld repeated its success in anywhere else but North America?

Part of the reason is that a lot of Brits have never seen Seinfeld. 11.20pm?11.50pm? on BBC2. I was younger then and didn't stay up that late and a lot of other people regardless of age don't either for that matter. Contrast this with Friends, Ellen, Cybill, Spin City, Will and Grace on at 9.00pm,9.30pm and Frasier at 10.00pm on Channel 4. The first time I properly saw Seinfeld was by catching a Season 8 episode by accident on Sky One just this year and that was at 11.30pm or something like that. I saw The Clipshow at 12.40am, The Finale was on the next day but it started at 1.40am. I am currently watching the daily Paramount Comedy Channel episodes at 5.30pm(interestingly about the only show that Paramount only show once in a day). The Pilot (2) was on today. However the majority of people don't have multichannel TV and aren't as fortunate. Basically the moral of this sermon is that if you bury something in the schedules nobody will watch it.

Yes. The reason for the "Great" has nothing to do with jingoism though. AFAIK it was called that by the (French) Norman invaders, distinguishing it from Brittany in France which is of course much smaller.

I too am UK and sometimes find myself doing that too. or at least being the first to use the catchphrases from the show.

Almost everyone I try to get to watch it hates it so much tho' :(
