Enthusiasm...?

What is the name of this new US show by one of the makers of Seinfeld; something "....Enthusiasm..."? Apparently the Beeb is going to show it on BBC4 next year! Alan

It is a creation of Larry David. It is called "Curb Your Entusiasm". I downloaded a lot of the episodes in *.avi format and have watched most of them. (They should be seen in order) I like it but it is not everyone's cup of tea. It centres around Larry David's life in California after retiring from "Seinfeld" - how he spends his time, his relationships with people, and the unique social situations he finds himself in.

It is more "george" than "George" ever was. It is low key - and has no laugh track.

Larry David usually finds himself in trouble with people because he "lies to save them embarrassement" or gets into some "politically correct" issue. A real actor could pull it off better. He should be a sympathetic character but Larry David comes across a little too tough so he does not get the audience empathy the show needs. If you get over that it is quite funny.

I love the show, but it's not for everyone. Mike is right, Larry is more George than George. It's very funny. A lot of shows build up to the last scene.

I like it as well, but it is an acquired taste. It's largely improvised (no script), so you don't get the usual set-up/punchline, set-up/punchline format of network sitcoms. It's made by HBO (premium cable) so they don't have to concern themselves with the language constraints of broadcast TV.

Fans of Seinfeld should enjoy the Jason Alexander and Julia Louise Dreyfus storylines.

I agree with your comments with the exception that a real actor could do it better. I disagree - I think the fact that he is a not a great actor gives the show its edgy feel and keeps it mroe dry and realisitic...sort of how Jerry Seinfeld was only a decent actor surrounded by great actors. Also, I think Larry David does a better Larry David impression than even Jason Alexander could do.
