Seinfeld DVDs?

What are your impressions of the Seinfeld DVDs?

I think they are quite good. I have viewed all Seinfeld episodes before. Thats why the most interesting thing in watching the DVDs was watching the extras and the comments as well as the outtakes on some episodes. It was really funny and I am going to buy the next season (comes out this October I think) too.

I like the notes about nothing, they seem to have paid someone to count relationships and door entrances... I lik the order is the originally intended, not the aired order...

I hate the notes about nothing because sometimes they are on the screen for less than 0.25 seconds... 5/6 frames of DVD.... terrible... space them out!! we are cloning sheep now! 5/6 will fire by and then nothing for about 1 minute...

I like some of the voice overs, but having jeryr and larry on some, and Micheal Richards, Julia LD and canstandya on the others was a little like they were publicly making some statement about money on the DVD, and that pissed me off.

What else... oh I sure hope there are more deleted scenes, sometimes the notes about nothing starts quoting more lines that were not shot, sometimes it says 'available on this DVD after' but mostly it says there was more here cut, and it isn't on the DVD :-(

More extras. For season 4 I was 20 mintues of extras per episode! :-) (not including the 20 minute voice overs.)

Plus get the 4 of them (not larry, he pissed me off with curb your enthusiasm) to talk on the show... I dunno...

Oh and 'the gum' episode is mentioned in the extras on season 3, and julia says 'I don't remember that one' and it is the one with her top open, and sources claim that it is a nipple slip, which prompted the christmas card episode... I wonder if this will make the dvd or be edited or is a myth?

well I don't reall wonder about it... the gum is a season 4 episode if I remember correctly.

It could well be me, but I find navigating through these DVDs to be horrendously poor. In fact I'm not sure that it complies with DVD standards. For one, I find it impossible (or have not been unable to figure out how) to choose an episode other than the first and then proceed through the remaining episodes. The chapter markings appear absurdly placed and that damned reappearing Sony screen with its accompanying music throughout each and every DVD is bothersome and consumes too much time for my tastes.

Huh? You go to "Episodes" and press Up and Down to choose your favourite episode, then press Select to go to that episode. Chapter breaks are placed at original commercial breaks (when the screen goes blank). That is pretty much the same as 95% of the DVD's out there.

When you see the Sony screen appear, press Next Chapter and away you go.

After going to that particular episode in question, I expect the DVD to play through to the end, but it does not. It stops playing at its completion. Does your DVD/player continue playing the subsequent episodes. Mine does not.

Why is each "Sony screen" assigned an individual and unique chapter number? Not in my set, I'm aware of the possibility of "fast forwarding" through that ridiculous reappearing Sony screen with its annoying sound effect , if that's what you mean.

It will only play the one episode you selected, obviously. I do not have much experience with other TV show DVD's, but I think the options usually are 'Select an episode' or 'Play all'. It is not like a movie where all the chapters are linked together and play like one thing, these are separate episodes. For example, if you quit your job, and were to watch the 10,000 documentaries on the Lord of the Rings Extended Platinum Collector's Gold Special Boxed Set Editions, you can either 'Play all', and it starts from documentary #1, and runs through to #10,000, or you pick individual documentaries, it just plays the one you picked and returns to the menu. That's pretty much standard for all non-movie material.

There is a sollution to all this... if you want it to start at episode #3, and play all the way through to #5, select 'Play All', and press 'Next Chapter' some six-to-eight times, until episode three starts, and put your feet up, relax, and watch the show. You won't have to exert yourself and reach for the remote any longer, which we all know is a real nuisance.

I don't know if it is assigned to a chapter number, could just be at the end of the last chapter in each episode, whatever it is, if you hit the 'Next' button on the remote, it'll go to the next episode or the menu whatever 'mode' you were in. Same as you can skip over the introductory monologue, or the title screens.

Something strange about the Sony screens though... I hear the player revving up just before and after the Sony screen comes on, indicating the Sony scene is on the DVD just once, and after each episode the player plays the exact same sequence. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yup, that's exactly how it works on the Friends DVD's. You can choose one episode, which will play and then end, or you can choose to play all of the episodes.

I still haven't purchased the first three seasons of Seinfeld. I've gotta do that one of these days.
