In The Masseuse Kramer went to a Giants football game. In a later episode called The Label Maker, Jerry said Kramer only watches Canadian football. That is an error unless Kramer had a change of heart about the NFL. BTW Calgary won the Grey Cup today.

Colder is NOT better. Hey, I noticed they played the Grey Cup in Winnipeg the otehr day. Yawn. The biggest game of the season, and not a word was heard. ESPN SportsCenter gave it about 15 seconds worth of coverage.

Seriously, I'll give Flutie credit. They said a 5'4" man could never play quarterback because he'd never be able to spot his receivers over the 6'6" defensive linemen, but he's proven himself worthy.

Well, Kramer never actually said he only likes CFL, that was heresay from Jerry. The only real evidence we have is seeing Kramer at the Giants game. But then, it *was* a free ticket.

The quality of the game is better in the CFL than in the NFL. When you have three downs instead of four, you are going to get more passes for sure which makes the game a lot more fun to watch.

What is unfortunate is that the better players play in the NFL because that is were the money is.

The ideal situation would be to have the NFL play with canadian rules but it's too bad that americans have no idea that there are other countries outside their borders. They can't admit something outside the US is better and when they know it is they try to copy it and force its popularity with big dollar advertising.

Other examples are Formula 1 wich is a lot better than Nascar or indy or whatever you call it. The movie industry in France and Italy make way better movies than Hollywood but are less publicized therefore unknown And the list goes on and on...

Oh Green Bay in December is not COLD - I remember a playoff game in Cleveland a few years ago - we had to turn the furnace up and we were just watching it on TV it was so cold.

Actually it was a pretty exciting game... Just because the US networks ignore sports and concentrate on marketing their corporate products does not mean real sport does not exist elsewhere.

The Super Bowl only started when the leagues merged 30 years ago. before that, the AFL was having their championship games for many years.

Why not. The more different you make it, the more you can call it your own sport.

Oh, I know the game, all right. I'm not posting out of ignorance, I just treat the CFL like the World League, or the USFL or any other minor league that exists only so college players who don't have what it takes to be NFL players don't have to resort to surviving on their education. Much like baseball has AA and AAA for the Major Leagues to pick from, the NFL has the CFL.

But from sunny South Florida, Green Bay may as well be Canada. BTW, it's gonna get down into the 70's tonight. I'd better bust out a windbreaker or something!

So "real sports" means "sports without marketing"? If the CFL knew how to market its product, maybe more than 4 people outside of Canada would have heard of it.

Besides, after this weekend (one in which I watched all or part of at least 9 different pro and college football games, as well as a NASCAR race, some college basketball, some tennis, some golf and an inning of an old Marlins game that was replayed on SportsChannel South), I find it hard to believe that US networks "ignore sports". On the contrary, we've got several networks devoted ENTIRELY to sports and nothing else.

Puh-lease. Rounders was a little girls' school recess game that, other than the fact that the field is square, shares nothing with the sport of baseball. Doubleday and Cartwright made sure of that.

Depends on your definition of exciting. I kinda like watching a Barry Sanders or an Emmitt Smith or a Jerome Bettis in action. Football should be about more than just a passing game. Just like in baseball, where I can better appreciate a pitchers dual that ends 2-1 compared to a slugfest that ends 14-12.

It's called "competitive advantage" and that's a whole 'nother discussion. Flutie got good because the CFL essentially gave him a few more years of college level football during which he honed his skills. He's like a rookie QB who was a college senior for 8 years.

In Canadian football all backfield players can move in any direction at the snap. American: one back can be in motion but not forward. I didn't mean to start a whole thing about Canadian football but this is the most replies I have had since I got back on this usenet group.

The Superbowl is relatively new but the NFL has been around for many years.

The Superbowl ticket was also free, I believe, but Kramer turned it down unlike the Giants ticket.

The Superbowl ticket was a bill for $1500, at least according to George it was. Plus he'd have to have one of those sleeping arrangements conversations. "I find those sleeping arrangements conversations depressing."

Well, it's like George said, giving someone a Super Bowl ticket is like
handing them a bill for $1500.  Kramer wasn't about to spend that kind
of money to see a ball game.

I remember a few years ago they scheduled opening day on Major League Baseball's All Star Game day - a Tuesday. That week there were no Monday Night sports - what an opportunity to have the air waves to themselves - but no they go head to head with baseball.
