Fans discuss whether the Seinfeld theme song has lyrics, with confusion about whether it's instrumental or has words, and disagreement over any potential lyrics.
As far as I know, those are the right lyrics. Definitely _not_ one of Joe Jackson's better compositions. I don't think there's any more lyrics, but if there were, I'd hope they would relate to shrinkage and chicken wire.

Those may be correct as they were written, but the way I remember them
actually being sung were a little different. As I recall, the last two
lines were:
Doing nothing during the day
Even less at night.
Which does fit the melody a little more precisely. Hope this helps.
Is anyone else as amused as I am by this all-too-common phenomenon? I keep coming across posts by people who think they're protecting themselves from spam, but they leave their real email addresses in their "From:" lines and add their magic "remove this" junk only to their .sigs or, as in this case, to the "Reply-to:" line. I guess that will work if Sanford Wallace himself is reading usenet and choosing "reply" when he comes across someone he wants to send the latest sex site advertisement to.
I like to imagine someone like ratboy here, sitting in front of his monitor, wondering how those clever spammers managed to thwart his brilliant anti-spam technique!
A more savvy Seinfeld writing staff would do a show about this.
And who the hell are you, trollboy? Come traipsing into my ng telling me you don't like the way I post? If you must know, I prefer to receive and delete all spam mail. Once in a while, I get something that interests me. I just keep the reply bit in the .sig for cosmetic purposes and to further confound those who would wish to e-mail me. (Why attempt to fool spambots when you can fool people?)
Not at all. If you read my posts instead of just the headers, you may realize I've done this thing once or twice before. BTW, nice demoralizing move there, not capitalizing Ratboy. You've done this before? Have some respect, jay.

You're right, it sure looks cool!
Yeah. But wouldn't you be more likely to "confound" them if you didn't have your correct email address in your "From:" line?
Once or twice before? You mean that it's not the case that you always use your correct email address in your From: line, append "XXXX" to that address in your Reply-to: line, and put "(Remove XXXX to reply)" in your .sig? It's been that way in every post of yours that I've seen in alt.tv.seinfeld.
Uh, Dave... "ratboy1" is your username. It's not supposed to be capitalized. You don't capitalize it yourself (look again at your From: line), and if you did you wouldn't be able to log on. I am sorry that I left out the "1" at the end, and so I apologize to anyone who uses the username "ratboy." But your name, Dave, is not "Ratboy." Sorry.
You got it. I do this all the time! Gardner Trask's got nothing on me, and I taught "Jesse Garon" everything he knows. Ted Frank read my book before he started troll.troll.trolling fratboys, and the tale of "Serdar Argic" is based on my life story. My name is spoken with awe in alt.flame. I am the Bastard Operator From Hell; Andrew Beckwith pities me.
But you...
^^^ ...you are the master.
There is only one Kibo, and I am not one of him. In fact, over the past month, and up to today, I've posted to alt.tv.seinfeld as much as I have to alt.religion.kibology. One post. [Results slightly skewed due to crossposting.] So you might just as well have said "Damned jerrys."
I've probably used that one before, but generally I try to avoid stealing jokes from television shows. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I'll give it a shot. Out of respect.
My New Years Resolution for 1998? Never respond to crossposts from a.r.k. I should have learned my lesson last time. So, I'm starting a bit early this year.
Yeppers. See, the original concepot for the show was that it would follow the wacky adventures of soem girls in a private school who lived with a warm grandmotherly woman and got into Adventures. The words were
"You take the good, you take the bad You take them both and there you have The facts of life, the facts of life, There's a time you've got to go and show You're growing now and so you know The facts of life, the facts of life When the world never seems To be living up to your dreams And suddenly you're finding out the facts of life are all about you You-oooo-oo-oo".
Then Jo got a sex change and moved to new york and met this guy called George. The show was never the same afterward.
You know people, we seem to have lost the whole idea of this thread. All of a sudden it turned into a debate on anti-spamming techniques. Can someone PLEASE answer the original question.....also, when did the Seinfeld theme have lyrics to it? I never heard about that.
Based upon his clear understanding of sitcom theme songs, I think that Dave can FINALLY explain to me where I can get PGP-encoded clown pornography. [1]
----------------- Michael R. Nosek [email] "Oh, you're using TUBE SOCKS. Not only are they isomorphic, but they make puppets that have saggy Adam's apples that leak." --James "Kibo" Parry ([email])
[1] I actually used the words "clown pornography" in a cover letter for my resume. Really! Third interview is tomorrow.
Come to think of it, I do have an extensive collection of clown pornography related URLs. It's been a filthy secret of mine for quite a while now, for you see, Kramer has a great fear of clowns (as evident in the episode entitled "The Opera")
How this relates to my extensive sitcom theme song knowledge has yet to be determined.
"Juuuuust, sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful apartment at 129 W. 81st St..."
A George is a George by George, by George And no one can talk to George by George That is, By George, Unless the George is the friend of Jerry Seinfeld.
Down the hall go And ask Cosmo; He'll give you the answer you want to know.
Comedians yicketty yack a streak And waste your time of say; But Jerry Seinfeld will never speak Unless he has something funny to say.
The NBC pilot never got sold, But Jerry's still banging an 18-year-old; You never heard of a talking Jerry? Well, listen to this: He is Mister Seinfeld.
No, that wasn't it. I got confused with the Mister Ed theme. The REAL Seinfeld theme went more like this:
Seinfeld; Jerry Seinfeld; He's a funny guy who's on TV;
It seems like it explained how they all got together. Apparently they were on a three-hour cruise and Kramer found oil on a hunting trip. Or something like that...
I notice you're using Newsreader/2. Ah.... Good ol' Newsreader/2. Just out of curiosity, can you now write a post that's larger than a few lines of original text without losing one's connection to the news server before it's completed?
I'm sorry, it *DID* have a theme song, which went thusly:
You're thinking of the Larry Summers show. They played that original theme back in the early episodes where the credits were in sans-serif, instead of the funky serifed "Seinfeld"; some episodes consisted of nothing but Jerry standing in front of a wall and interacting with a nightclub crowd. Then he started dating Elaine, and the series took off, until they finally went to bed together, killing all the sexual tension that made the show a great romantic comedy. It's been downhill ever since.
You're thinking of "The Jerry Springer Show". The lyrics to the Seinfeld theme had something to do with the various stages of suicide.
In fact, if I recall correctly, those lyrics were included when the same theme was used for the original Seinfeld movie, but network executives demanded they be removed from the pilot because it was thought that some viewers might perceive certain parts as glorifying suicide.
Rumor has it that the series' producers were so angered by the "meddling" that they *purposely* commissioned the horrible Jazz cum Musak rendition we're all familiar with. The original had this kind of Bluegrass Funk thing going.
"Jerry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song. It's almost halfway finished, how do you like it so far? This is the theme to Jerry Seinfeld's show."
Those are the actual words, I'm afraid, except for the part about how I'm almost to the part of where I start to whistle.
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a stand-up man. A man who's a stand up comic with three dysfunctional friends. Costanza is a balding man, he's chronically unemployed, Lanie Benes is his ex-girlfriend, she's perpetually annoyed. Then there's Cosmo Kramer who lives next door,
I believe it was Seaquest Seaquest something something very best!
I can't remember the rest but apparently it was a witty in-joke about the fact that Michael Richards who plays Kramer was going to be the original Captain of the Seaquest DSV before he quit at the last moment to join Seinfield. But the Seaquest lawyers heard about it and demanded that the lyrics be scrapped.
I read this on the Internet so it's probably true.
