Jerry's Girlfriend

There was this episode where Jerry was going out with this woman. Her friends were all "grateful" that he agreed to go out with her. He liked her a lot but George and Kramer thought that she was not right for him, for some reason. And Jerry thought they were wrong.

He invites his parents to meet her. They like her a lot and when he realises that, he decides that he doesn't like her anymore.

What the hell was wrong with her? Why did George and Kramer hate her? Why did Jerry stop liking her because of his parents?

I didn't understand it. Anyone know?

it's Seinfeld..you're not really supposed to understand. He stopped seeing her because his parents REALLY liked her..isn't that enough reason?

How often have you seen a guy with some woman and wonder why they are together, and what does he see in her? So they turned it around, that everyone else could can see something wrong with her except Jerry and the viewers. It makes it funny because if you don't see anything wrong with someone, then you couldn't understand why people react that way. It's the other point of view.

But John is right, you won't fund it funny analyzing it.

It is. Some kids go through a stage (and sadly as adults too) that they are attrached to people their parents would find most objectionable for a variety of reasons. So if their parents actually approve of the relationships they lose interest in them. We saw an example of this when George was dating a woman in Elaine's office. The moment Elaine approved of the relationship and saying that George was OK for her, she lost interest in George. It is also a way to show how "grown-up" or mature you are to be with someone unlike your parents.
