As I saw the last shot of the gang in their little cell as the camera pulls back I felt that this was a messsage. I think the show had become like a prison for Jerry and the others.
Actors want to try new things, play different roles. The successful ones go on to produce and direct. Being the same character for 9 years probably is difficult for these kind of people. Instead of just going thru the motions so they could make a lot of money they deserve credit for walking away when they did.
