Viewers report hearing Elaine say an uncensored profanity during the episode, apparently missed by network censors.
About two-thirds of the way through tonight's episode, when Elaine is trying to get her purse back from the Russian author, she _clearly_ says "shit". Not really noticeable--I'm glad I taped it, because nobody else heard it or believed me. Strange, huh?
Now that you mention it, I could have sworn for a second that I heard Elaine say "Shit!" last night!! Anyone else hear this?
Yup, I heard it. She definitely said "shit." Definitely.

I thought she was saying "shit" too. During the commercial, I played it back, and decided that it might have been the juxtaposition of the sounds "shhhh" and "it", and not necessarily the actual word.
Not earth shattering news, I know, but I thought it was interesting at the time, because "shit" would certainly have applied to that situation.
I suppose if they were looking for effect, they could have pulled the old "Give me back my <bleeeep>ing address book" though.
Now, *that* episode was funny (in an adolescent kind of way....)

I remember when they first showed E.T. on the networks last year, there were two uses of the fecal curseword that slipped by the censors. Perhaps they assumed that a kids movie wouldn't possibly have to be screened for such language.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the tape (copied it over with Animaniacs!), so I'm unable to check exactly. As I remember it, though, she says something like "Oh, shit, give me that back" right before he throws the tape recorder out the window. I could be wrong on this. Does anyone who followed up my original post still have the tape?

Presumably. Jerry looks a bit surprised.
I played it for my wife and kids last night - didn't tell them what to listen for - but replayed that little bit about 5 times, and asked "did you hear her say anything strange?" They all said no. I don't think she says shit - although I can hear the 'ssshhhhh...' sound. And Jerry always looks like he's either about too laugh or is surprised.
