This week they came out with the top 100 episodes of all time and included 2 seinfeld episodes.. #33 The Parking Garage
and
#4 The Boyfriend
I always thought that the final episode from the (5th?) season was awsome I think it was called ' The opposite' , and also the Masturbation episode ...I think both of those certainly beat out 'The Parking Garage'

*Some* episode of MTM? I love Seinfeld, and there are many, many Seinfeld episodes that should have been in the top 100 (probably 20), but no Seinfeld episode comes close to being as funny and touching as the Chuckles episode. It was so unexpected and took some good acting on Mary's part to pull it off. If anyone has a chance to see it, you won't be disappointed.
#2 on the list was Lucy's Vitavegemin elixor commercial episode, another classic.
#3 was some episode of ER, a show that I never watch because I tend to fall asleep after 10.

TV Guide enshrines the idea that old tv shows have some lasting value. They really just become hoplessly dated. One of the greatest moments on Seinfeld was when Jerry said he had never seen an episode of Lucy. That sort of crap deserves to be forgotten along with the Honeymooners. To be consistent, I don't think those of us who love Seinfeld should shove it down young peoples' throats 30 years from now.
I don't agree that old TV shows are dated and crap. I still enjoy "I Love Lucy". What I didn't like about the TV Guide list, though, is that it seemed there was too much variety. Almost every TV show under the sun seemed to be mentioned ("On The Air", "Partridge Family", "Speed Racer", etc.), while the classic shows like "Seinfeld", "I Love Lucy", and "M.A.S.H." seemed to have no more than two episodes appear in the list. Seinfeld's "The Contest", for example, wasn't listed, but neither was the final episode of "M.A.S.H.", or "Eye of the Beholder" from "Twilight Zone". That's all I have to say for now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again "The Parking Garage" is not the best show that Seinfeld has done. "The Boyfriend" is good, but for the best you have to go with "The Contest". Has any show ever handled such subject matter without ever uttering the "M" word in such a hilarious way? And I'm not talking about manure which really isn't so bad when you think about it. Becuase its ma and newer. For a second Seinfeld in the top 100 I'd put "The Airport". One of my favorite scenes is Elaine trapped in her middle seat when she has to go to the bathroom. The silent screaming at the idiot next to her followed by the awesome physical comedy of climbing out. Then looking down the aisle at people she has bumped into. "That's Gold!"
I don't see what the big deal is about I Love Lucy. I'm sure at the time that it was great because TV was young and everything was groundbreaking. The Honeymooners is timeless. Seinfeld is a lot like the Honeymooners. The physical comedy of Ralph and Norton in The Honeymooners is funny, but it's the character portrayls by Gleason and Meadows that make the show great. Seinfeld is the same way. Kramer's falls and Elaine's shoves are funny, but it's the acting of Jason Alexander and the others that make the show.

'The Parking Garage' was an early episode that everyone could relate to and was truly about a mundane topic that no show should be based on (a show about nothing). It was an episode that thrusted the show into popularity if I'm not mistaken.

A few musings from a seven-year Seinfeld fan...
The two episodes TV Guide included on its "best 100" list certainly belong. But certainly the nutbar selections like Speed Racer and the Brady Bunch and Partridge Family episodes could've been dumped (they serve only as good examples of what is WRONG with TV). The Seinfeld episodes that could have and should have replaced them, certainly include "The Contest," "Fusilli Jerry," and perhaps either "The Japanese Tourists," "The Pilot" (NOT "Seinfeld Chronicles" but the epi- sode about the filming of the pilot that didn't fly) or this past season's finale "The Summer of George." And that's hardly an all inclusive list; the death of Susan and the hour-long episode featuring Jerry's wacko mechanic and Newman's lamebrain bottle deposit scam could also qualify. And what about the night at the opera? Face it, Seinfeld is offering us the most consistently and originally funny comedy since Lucille Ball packed up her original show in 1957.
In all fairness, the finale of the Mary Tyler Moore show should also have been on their top 100...and so should some of the classic TV dramatic hours like Rod Serling's 1955 "Patterns" from the old CBS Studio One series. Surely those were more influential and better TV than "Speed Racer"...
