Comment: Early Shows

I just watched a rerun of an early show where George and Jerry invest in
Centrex or some such stock.  Anyway my comment is that these early shows
seem awkward in comparison to their later work.  It is apparant that they
are not completely comforatable in their characters.  In many ways this
reminds me of many lesser sitcoms that never get past this stage.
   Another thought is that the early shows with the obvious jokes and the
laugh tracks remind me of the show that George and Jerry write with the
butler.  Even Kramer in the earlier episodes looks more menacing with his
unshaven look, much like the character who plays Kramer in the TV pilot
(the one who stole the box of raisins).

Just saw this one myself last night. Here's a great example of, IMO, an early Seinfeld that relatively sucks. People always complain about "The Chinese Restaurant" or some other episodes in the current season as the worst Seinfelds they have ever seen, such as the one about the fighting chicken (The Little Jerry?). However, I have never heard anyone complain about "The Stock Tip," though this episode definitely sucked. Boring boring boring.

"The Stock Tip" was co-written by Larry David, who I can admire and say has some talent. Some people in this NG insist on worshipping the man, though I feel the show works just fine without him. In many ways, it works even better. And, I don't blame him. He himself admitted that he was burned out of the show and lacking ideas. So he left. That doesn't mean that nobody else had any fresh ideas. And, they did!

I don't think he is a Roger Waters to a Pink Floyd. He's more like a David Lee Roth to a Van Halen, or a Peter Gabriel to a Genesis. Someone who had a significant part in the creative output of a team, but was not integral to it apparently.
