That's probably due to the chronology--"The Stock Tip" was episode #5, back when Jerry (the character) wasn't as successful, and George had a steady job. It could be assumed that Jerry (the character) started making more money in later seasons as his popularity grew and he worked higher-profile gigs, and George had less money due to being unemployed.

Then why does he live in such a terrrible apartment. What is his rent. In the episode where George pretends to be a tourist he says his rent is 2300. If he was the Assistant to the Traveling Secretary that means he was making good money to be able to afford that high a rent. The whole money thing on the series did not make much sense to me.

George's assistant (I forget her name) gets a raise of $25k a year which George says she is making more money than he is. That would seem like George isn't making that much in that job. I agree the whole money issues in the show don't make sense.

I've never understood 'rent controlling' Is it by the building or by the individual apartment? How does a building/apartment get qualified for this program? How controlled is it? Can the rent never be increased or only by a certain amount?
