Yes, I don't know what it was, but something was making me stay tuned to Conan last night, and it wasn't the leg wrestle between the lovable big guys of sitcom (George Wendt & John Goodman). Something in me wanted him to succeed. I think once he gets the hang of it, he might be rather good. But he has to get away from the nervous Arsenio-like question, "So what's up?"
I thought the funniest line had to be in his mologue, paraphrased below:
"This is really a dream come true. When I was young I always dreamed about having my own talk show. But kids, they can be cruel. My friends always said to me, 'Conan, the day you have a talk show is the day there's peace in the Middle East.'"
Maybe a lucky draw, but it was funny.
Also liked how John Goodman quipped, "send him to wardrobe" about the frumpy sidekick. I think the sidekick might have potential; although he was trying awfully hard to get a laugh last night. At one point he said something that sent the audience into applause, but as I was drifting in and out of slumber, I missed it. The sidekick also looks strangely familiar. Can anyone place him?
Whoops, sorry. Way off the Seinfeld track in this message. Can't wait until the season opener! Maybe then we'll get to the real matters at hand.
