Did George's mother die at the end? I was not quite sure. If she was you would think that one of the characters at least George would have said something. But then they are self-centered so they probably wouln't.
I don't know about George's mother (I don't think she did, because George's father was grabbing her and saying they had to go to beat the traffic), but what about Newman? I personally thought he was having a heart attack after the verdict was announced.

When I saw Newman choking, I was hoping maybe one of the four would have come to his aid, and that would have changed the final judgment.

I think you are confused. I think what the poster meant was that by helping another fat guy (not Newman), the four would have shown that they DO have compassion for their fellow man, and thus maybe beat the charges (which were of being consistently 100 percent only interested in themselves). I don't think the poster was confusing Newman with the other, fatter guy who was mugged.

i had wondered this too, george never really liked his mother. and they were all too self absorbed to care anyway. i also wondered if she slept with the judge

Yea, I wondered that too. Did George's mom die or just faint. What about Newman? He was choking at the end. Did he die too?
