Anyone have any theories on this ... whatever? Does he troll to amuse himself? Is he mentally ill? Does he really think he's funny? Is he, in fact, funny and I just don't get it? Why hit this ng?

The mentally ill theory is certainly possible. But I think he is just a troll who purposely writes in all caps and makes moronic spelling mistakes just to piss everyone off and watch the sparks fly. Especially since he does a lot of cross-posting. He probably does think he's funny, or else he wouldn't continue to do it.

He's not mentally ill. Well, let me put it this way, any potential mental illness he may have is not the cause for his annoying writing style. He posts well enough in other newsgroups. At first I thought the crossposting was an accident, and my early attempts to steer his threads clear of our newsgroup resulted in me being the one he chose to slander the most. To be honest, I don't read his posts (I stopped after the first week) and I don't care much for the latest trend of his; mentioning me in the titles of his posts. He's nothing more than an adult troll who likes to pretend he's a child. Ever read "Flowers for Algernon"? I think that's where he got his inspiration. It's a sci-fi story about a mentally retarded person who undergoes 'experiments' and his intelligence rises to genius level, before falling back down again. Anyway, David H. writes like "Charly" (the retarded main character) before the experiments begin.
What's really sad is the occasional "I think it's cute" post. Usually,
these come from folks who shouldn't be on UseNet either.

I found him hilarious for the first ten or so posts. It's so obviously a joke (to "spell" it out, if he can't spell Seinfeld, how does he even get to alt.tv.seinfeld? Or, even if he's in a point-and-click world, he'd still know it's a newsgroup, not a chatroom. Oh, glad for the reminder: when I first read his posts, I wondered if it was a parody of the type of moron he figures must watch Seinfeld, you know, like if he thinks Seinfeld is a dumb show. We could have an deeply bitter, *very* angry, academic on our hands.. Eek!
