Fans debate which single episode best introduces Seinfeld to newcomers, with "The Contest" emerging as the popular choice for capturing character essence without requiring prior knowledge.
If you had to choose one episode to show someone who had never seen Seinfeld before, what episode would you pick? What episode best captures the main characters' personalities and essence of what it's about? It may or may not be your favourite episode.

I'd pick "The Contest". Its popularity shows that it's easily approachable by a new viewer, and its humor doesn't really require any additional knowledge about previous episodes. It introduces the four main characters and gives a good representation of each (especially George!). It's also an episode that a new viewer made have heard about since it's famous, and they may have more an interest in seeing it.
As a second choice, I'd pick "The Parking Garage", mainly because it's such a universal situation that a new viewer could easily identify with. However, a new viewer might find the characters a bit less likeable in this episode.
Doh! Spellchecker never catches those stupid "I-typed-the-wrong-word-but-spelled-it-correctly" errors. Two of 'em in just one sentence, too...

if they are going to be viewing more episodes, i would consider holding this one until it can be shown with the connecting episodes. that section plays even better if viewed serially.
I would suggest "The Parking Garage" since this was the first Seinfeld I saw and decided that this was a good series and would continue to watch it. Since I was a new viewer at the time, this convinced me. The line about why George wouldn't carry a pen in his pants pocket to me was not only great but it really defined his character to me as a newcomer at the time.

Good choice, something like 'The Limo' and a few other episodes of that era are good initiations. As a latecomer myself soem of the 1st episodes I saw were 'The Marine Biologist', 'The Bizarro Jerry' and 'The Reverse Peephole' all of which did the trick for me. I also think my own personal favourite episode 'The Pool Guy' would be good as well.
The Heart Attack I just LOVE that episode! You see a sarcastic Jerry, a wacky Kramer, a flirty Elaine and a gullible George. GREAT!
(The Contest and The Virgin are also very good! Also the one with the pigman...)
