A question about Cosmo's gambling problem

There is an episode in Seinfeld that Kramer bets arriving and departures against a cowboy in an airport. Earlier, George bets him that his boss looks like Sugar Ray Leonard and he gets all excited and say how much? ($100, $200, a $1000) and Seinfeld stops him, because he had a gambling problem in the past. My question is, what was this problem that Seinfeld refers too???

to my knowledge, this problem was never discussed in any pre`vious shows...

I think Jerry said he had the problem under control for two years. That would put that (at the time of the episode) around the time of the contest. We all know Kramer was the first one out. In The Pony Remark, Kramer bet Jerry he could finish remodeling his apartment and Jerry refused to bet and Helen didn't want them betting. Neither instance proves he had a problem, but it could be evidence.

Now let's not forget the time when Kramer was waiting in teh airport for Jerry to come back from ITHACA, NY!!!!! Kramer and Earl (the cowboy) were betting on which plane would come in first. Remember Newman--Son of Sam mailbag!!!
