I have all of the episodes in order without commericals. I have them recorded on 9 - 8-hour tapes with extras like the hbo special, the bloopers, and interviews. All for $60.00 in ep speed. (this is just in the US, I have to add shipping out of the US) Email [email] for info.

i'm surprised someone on this group would object to the only way of obtaining the whole set of the show that wouldn't take over a year

who is it hurting to sell the tapes ?

The people who paid to create the program and are entitled to a return on their investment. The same copyright laws which protect all authors, artists and performers.

It's hardly a matter of need.

Are you saying that once an artist has earned X number of dollars, then the Federal Copyright laws should no longer apply?

"Sorry, Mr. Rock Star, but you've sold too many CDs. Your material is now public domain."

Personally, I could care less about the money. I'm just annoyed that
someone can plunk down a few bucks and get what it took me one very long
year of constant dilligence and faithfulness to accomplish.

so basically you are saying that you feel stupid for going through all of the trouble of taping them when you could have just bought them no? :)

DavePEL0

No. Actually, it was a parody of Jerry's being offended by Whatley's religious conversion, but he was not offended as a Jew, he was offended as a comedian.

I can see you have a limited level of devotion, by your use of the phrase "going through all of the trouble". I didn't see it as 'trouble' at all. And I certainly don't feel stupid for having done it. I now have a total of over 150 hours of Seinfeld related programming on tape and, if anything, I feel proud, not stupid.

i would think its trouble to record syndicated episodes and then put them in order whatever though the point is if people want to buy them they should be able to i think

DavePEL0

Would you ask a proud parent if it was too much trouble to bathe his/her children?

I agree. I think people should be able to buy episodes on tape the
moment Castle Rock releases them.

i don't know if i have this right but are you comparing the tv show seinfeld to a child? if so then i don't think i can even argue with you thats insanity its just a tv show!

DavePEL0

If you consider it just a TV show, then you're right. We have no common ground from which to argue.

Except that simple ethics dictate you don't sell bootleg videos for
profit.

the episodes and you needed it to finish your collection you would not buy it from someone.? What if it wasnt going to come on again in syndication like the Puerto Rican day ep. and you really wanted it to finish your collection and someone had it for sale are you saying you wouldnt pay a little something for it? Or what about people wanting other tv shows that dont come on anymore or that they dont even air in syndication? I feel if there is a show out there that I havent seen in a long time and would like to watch again, but is not in syndication then I would be sure to pay someone who did record it to get me a copy, just so I could see it again. I also think that if you have recorded something from tv then it is not called a bootleg video, I could be mistaken on that but I have always read that bootleg was either recorded live concerts or recorded from a already made tape like a movie or something bought in the store. (i may be wrong) Also, they have had many discussions about this on this newsgroup and others and there has been a court case which I could not find the web page that documented it but tv shows are still a iffy thing with copywrites where movies have always been illegal to record off for someone for a profit. I do record off the Seinfeld eps. for people as you have probably seen in other posts, but I am clearly not making much of a profit on it if you figure it up, it is mainly because I love the show and would like anyone who wants to be able to have all of the eps. to have them. I know when I was trying to get them all I would have loved to have them all mailed to me in order without commericals instead of me having to do it for many, many hours. Anyway, thats just my feelings, which really dont matter in the long run.

So are you saying that, if for instance you didnt have one of

I'm not an attorney (and I don't play one on t.v.) but my understanding is that it is acceptable to tape a program from t.v. for one's own use or the use of his family and/or friends.

To sell a copyrighted product for profit is clearly a violation of the federal copyright laws and the violator is subject to legal sanctions. However, if the purpose is simply to recapture the price of the blank tape plus shipping and packaging costs, and if one is not in the business of selling copyrighted material, but does so on an exception basis, you may be approaching the line, but in my non-legal opinion, not crossing it.

Two issues involved in copyright protection involve: 1. The seller's unjust profitability from the efforts of the artist and 2. Depriving the artist of equitable compensation for his art.

Once again, I am not an attorney and do not offer the above as a legal opinion.

What? I thought you were going to say, "It's just a child". Thousands of children are born every minute. Sitcoms like Seinfeld are created once a decade. How can you compare this genius work to just another child. We can't even talk about this. Or are you cloning children and selling them too? :-)
